Help:Disambiguation

Disambiguation let wikis resolve the fact that multiple articles sometimes share a similar title or abbreviation.

For example, "ID" could refer to both Idaho and Intelligent design. If someone navigates to "ID", then we don't know whether they're looking for the potato state or the banana theory, so it's better to let them decide.

RationalWiki has two types of disambiguation:

  1. Disambiguation pages ({{fork}}): ID is a disambiguation page, leading to all the alternative uses of "ID".
  2. Hatnotes ({{hatnote}}): HPV and HBV are very similar in spelling, and so both pages have a hatnote reading "Not to be confused with [the other disease]".
