[edit] 67.149.173.242

I understand your reasoning for giving him a two years block... But the thing is that IPs are pretty elastic. If he has a dynamic IP than he can change it by tomorrow, and than some other schmoe's IP would be blocked for two years. Isn't that a problem? - Bill Rawls (talk) 19:12, 18 May 2014 (UTC)

I did my research. It's not a dynamic IP, and it's also not a proxy. Two years for a death threat is what the last guy to issue one got. Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 09:15, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
Oh I see, if it's static than two years is definitely appropriate. - Bill Rawls (talk) 14:52, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
Yes, but you made a good point. I was a little heavy handed. I reduced that block to 6 months. Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 18:41, 20 May 2014 (UTC)

[edit] A favour?

Hey, Goonie, can you keep an eye out on contributions/unblockings re: this guy and his talk page? He wrote a vile anti-everything-but-straight-white-Chriatians screed and has been making homophobic threats on his talk page. I know you understand "free speech" doesn't mean "hate speech allowed." Thanks... Father Vivian O'Blivion (talk) 04:08, 22 May 2014 (UTC)

Will do, buddy. Scum like that ain't gonna fly on the Wiki while I'm still around. Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 18:17, 22 May 2014 (UTC)

[edit]  ?

What do you think? Acei9 08:15, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

I pretty much concur with your assertions. Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 08:19, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

Ick. Sorry buddy, but that's not at all my cup of tea for music. I hate that melodic, slow, orchestral metal shit. Sorry. Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 09:34, 19 June 2014 (UTC)
It's not really orchestral, but I understand. It's not everybody's cup of tea. DØØM MĖSSIÅH Deserved doom shall be unto youDolan.png 09:48, 19 June 2014 (UTC)
Dude, I'm a punk and former oogle. Anything over 3 minutes and it better be worth it. Anything over 5, and it better be Dead Kennedys. Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 10:03, 19 June 2014 (UTC)
You see, as a prog fan, I have no clue what you're on about. MESSIAH OF DOOM Hehehehehe WHEEEEE!Dolan.png 21:55, 19 June 2014 (UTC)
An example of each: punk and oogle (aka: gutter punk). Hope this helps. Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 11:54, 20 June 2014 (UTC)
I know what punk and shit means, I just don't understand how somebody can not tolerate songs of completely reasonable length. DØØM MĖSSIÅH Keeping myself alive, through your EMPATHY.Dolan.png 11:35, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
22 minutes isn't completely reasonable. ŴêâŝêîôîďWeaselly.jpgMethinks it is a Weasel 13:05, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
22 minutes was reasonable for 1970's pop rock, but as they found then (and as I maintain now), it serves NO purpose in modern music other than to confuse the listener with boredom. Classical music and opera get an exemption here, because opera is a musical play, in essence, and much of classical music such as Mozart is as much an interpretive art of the mind as it is music (i.e: you mind draws the pictures and lyrics for you). Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 09:19, 22 June 2014 (UTC)
Holy fucking shit, you did NOT just fucking confuse prog with pop rock. Besides, I think that a music should do what it wants. If it sounds good, then coolio. The length doesn't really matter at all, in my opinion. If it works, then fucking great, if it doesn't, well then, shit. It's the same with shredding and technicality. Besides, when I listen to music, I don't really go "okay, I'm listening to this song, it's gonna go for X minutes and its going to do this, or I don't fucking like it", I'm all like "holy fucking shit, these sounds are moving my dick". Especially when it comes to this type of music, I listen to the songs as different textures of the same changing atmosphere, not shit that has to do shit or it will be shit. THE GREAT RIGHTEØUS DESTRØYER Raining blood, from a lacerated skyDolan.png 12:49, 22 June 2014 (UTC)
Confuse? No. I compared it to what was tried back in the 1970's with hour long guitar solos, repetitive lyrical verses over and over again, and musicians waving their dicks for an hour just to make money for every minute of a song they recorded. In so far as what I said before about song length, that was hyperbole, not some rule I actually follow. But, there again, I like my songs straight and to the point. It's just a matter of personal taste, really. As a songwriter, I've not yet had a poem that takes 20 minutes to recite that I can't get down into 5 minutes of music and lyrics that are still as powerful, albeit more economical to the listener's time. Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 09:07, 24 June 2014 (UTC)
Well, as a songwriter myself, I personally find that there is really no rush. If there's a good idea or theme in the song, IMO, it's cool to explore it as much as possible, see all the different ways it can build. However, I know what you mean about being concise and to the point, and, as you say, it's just a matter of personal taste. However, I will point out that I don't see how one long song is really excessively different from a few little songs, kn'a'm saying? [edit] Certified Lean Practitioner

I take this to mean you only serve fat-free foods in your restaurant.

"Sorry, we drain all the fat from the bacon before serving." Star of David.png Radioactive Misanthrope 15:19, 24 June 2014 (UTC)

Draining isn't fast enough, pal. They haul the bacon out of the oven and pat it with roll it around on a paper towel before slapping it in front of the customer Just In TimeTM. You're lucky this punk didn't get certified in the nineties, when "lean and mean" was the buzzword. Then, the bacon presentation included sarcastic commentary. Sprocket J Cogswell (talk) 15:35, 24 June 2014 (UTC)
Lol, that's pretty funny. I hadn't thought of it that way. But, no, lean as in Lean manufacturing. Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 18:30, 24 June 2014 (UTC)

[edit] Yo dawg

I heard that you were sober and bored. How's shit going? MĖSSIÅH ØF DØØM And joyously screams out its painDolan.png 09:47, 27 June 2014 (UTC)

Going well, albeit bored. I'm not used to being up this late and having no substances at all (not even caffeine) in my system. I'm 2 weeks in on this whole "No drinking/smoking/coffee/other things for a while" shit that I started as a way to get my health issues under control. Unfortunately, this has made me realize that being awake until 6:00 a.m while stone-cold sober without even so much as coffee or a smoke is terribly boring and actually makes me act like a drunkard. Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 09:53, 27 June 2014 (UTC)
That must suck. I understand the boredom and tiredness stuff you're talking about. Studying for exams until 3 am every day for the past couple of weeks has really left me in the same kinda situation. GØØBY PLS The epitome of Gods and Men alike Dolan.png 10:12, 27 June 2014 (UTC)
Ick. No fun at all. Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 10:15, 27 June 2014 (UTC)
Meh, it was worth it. I totally pwned that shit. DØØM MĖSSIÅH Suffer the stormsDolan.png 09:01, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
Oh, how I wish I was still just a full-time college student. Sure, there's the poverty of the situation to bemoan (or deal with the way that I would), but there's also a certain level of freedom to experiment and think for yourself and a level of error that you are allowed that you don't get once you reach the professional world. If I knew back in college what would happen after college, I would've tried my best to just stay in college. Perhaps, of course, that's a sign that I'm in the wrong profession. Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 09:05, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
Well, it sure as fuck beats high school. What university education did you get? DØØM MĖSSIÅH Remembrance of the transcending moonDolan.png 09:12, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
I am a mechanical engineer by trade, though I have currently found myself in the dual role as one of the bosses. I will say that the most curious thing ever in my schooling career was that, in high school, they tell you ever goddamn day, "This is going to prepare you for college." Then, you get to college, and all the professors for the first year tell you that you are starting with the basics because nobody ever comes out of high school truly prepared for college. Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 09:21, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
Grade-wise, I completely aced high-school, leaving with an OP1, and I found that the only real struggle I ha going from high-school to uni was that it was a lot less structured, which didn't really work out for me at first. The problem I had with highschool was just that people were such cunts, y'know? But the uni people are (mostly) pre' kewl. MĖSSIÅH ØF DØØM Deaf and blind and dumb and born to followDolan.png 09:27, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
Oh, I completely understand. I loved everybody in college, even the ones that I knew I couldn't stand outside of the college's walls. To be honest, I am glad that I chose college over what my original plan was, even though that plan was working and I miss it sometimes. In reality, it wouldn't have been sustainable and I would've been damned to have settled for an entry level job or something. Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 09:33, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
What was your original plan? MĖSSIÅH ØF DØØM Dark seas of endless pain…Dolan.png 09:36, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
Oh, I thought I could drop out of society, and had for a while. There are, of course, extenuating circumstances that helped my cause, but I won't get into those. But for about 7 months when I was 19-20, I was an aimless drifter/hobo living off of dumpster diving, train hopping, hitchhiking (yes, it's still a thing), and panhandling. It was an adventure, to be sure. But one of the most dangerous things I've ever done and something that, looking back on it, I will never repeat (until I have a mid-life crisis, of course). Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 09:47, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
Mmm, that sounds pretty interesting, actually. Being a doctor/medical research has always pretty much been my Plan A since I was about 15, which is what I'm studying for now, but, for a little while, I thought that I was gonna be a lawyer. But then I realised that law was boring as batshit. DØØM MĖSSIÅH What is this that stands before me?Dolan.png 10:09, 29 June 2014 (UTC)

[edit] LQT

Say that I was to want to apply LQT to my talkpage. How would I go about doing such a thing? I apologise if this info can be found somewhere else- I looked in, like, three places, then gave up. So yeah, could you please help me with this? Thanx br0. GØØBY PLS I know the pieces fit, because I watched them fall awayDolan.png 11:42, 6 July 2014 (UTC)

A better idea: don't. LQT is not maintained, which means that at some point, an update to MediaWiki may break it. RW's instance was already partially broken by an update (e.g. the toolbar doesn't load). Otherwise, if you are willing to take the risk, the instructions are here: mw:Extension:LiquidThreads #User documentation. It's a good idea to archive the previous contents of your talk page first and provide a link to the archive.
P.S. Also, this should have been directed towards RationalWiki: Technical support.--ZooGuard (talk) 13:17, 6 July 2014 (UTC)

Dangit, Dolan, just when my estimation of your RW activities had risen to "useful, and not an idiot," you go and ask something like this. ZooGuard's first bit of advice, viz. and to wit, "don't" is worth repeating, IMO. Sprocket J Cogswell (talk) 13:51, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
K. I just saw it as a thing and I was like "heh, might try that shit". I was unaware that it was all dodgy and shit. THE GREAT RIGHTEØUS DESTRØYER Too close enough to touchDolan.png 13:59, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
Also, I would have put it on tech support- however, I thought that it was only for when shit wasn't working, not for asking questions about stuff that everyone else knows. GØØBY PLS Sorry if I piss you offDolan.png 04:26, 7 July 2014 (UTC)
If I were you, I'd stay away from LQT. It seemed like a good idea back in the day, but given how unstable it is and the fact that MediaWiki no longer supports it, you're better off avoiding it altogether. Trust me, there is a good reason why I stopped using LQT, even though I had been an huge advocate of switching to it back in the day. Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 06:00, 7 July 2014 (UTC)
Cool, I'll keep that in mind. It just looked cool when I saw it. MESSIAH OF DOOM Reaching out to embrace the randomDolan.png 06:04, 7 July 2014 (UTC)
Oh, I think it's far superior as a talkpage format, but it is so buggy that it's not really worth the effort, especially since it being functional is dependent on whether the techies at RationalWiki care enough to fix it. Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 06:07, 7 July 2014 (UTC)
Ah, okay. Also, sorry for spamming your talkpage with useless shit about LQT and cake and dumplings and whatnot. MESSIAH OF DOOM Wired were the eyes of a horse on a jet pilotDolan.png 06:09, 7 July 2014 (UTC)
