I actually think he's onto something here. What Andy (I think) is claiming is true in the sense that once a liberal idea has become mainstream, that idea will get usurped embraced by the right. Look at things like the Founding Fathers, freeing slaves, and Martin Luther King (how many of the people at Glenn Beck's rally would have claimed that he was a great American 20 years ago?). My prediction is that 50 years after same-sex marriage is legal, the right will claim that they always supported it on classically conservative grounds ("the government can't tell me who to marry"), they will forget the biblical arguments they used to oppose it (just as they forgot the biblical arguments they used to justify slavery and the divine right of kings), and they will praise Ann Coulter for "bravely" fighting for same-sex marriage, while the evil, librul Obama did nothing. reichhol (talk) 17:04, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
