Essay:My Thoughts
The Preramble[edit]
I chose the title "My Thoughts" because I didn't really know what to call this essay, there originally was a point to writing it beyond putting my thoughts to the internet there originally was something I wanted people to gain out of this and perhaps somewhere in here there still is, though I doubt whatever gets picked up in here will be much of value. Not sure how long this essay is going to end up being but I'll keep writing until I don't have stuff to say anymore.
An Introduction To Myself[edit]
Hi, my name is TheAceOfOne, or Ace, and if you know me on this site, you probably know me as either that person who lurks in the Virtual Youtuber draft or that person who made that really terrible joke in the Saloon Bar, I know that's an absolutely stunning resume, I'm using this space to put down my thoughts in writing that I hope someone sees, because while yes, I do recognize that the global situation is technically not hopeless, it requires the global populous (or at least the United States) to come together and take serious action, and I have come to the realization that the possibility of a full scale revolution, let alone a successful one, in favor of limiting corporations, expanding human rights, and progressing towards a fair government, in a historically anti-liberal society, is not exactly feasible, I've just decided to use this space as a place to dump my thoughts on certain things.
"If you ignore Y about X then X isn't so bad!"[edit]
Two things first off, one: this is the title of this section because I really don't know what else to call this; two: this is something that has not gone away, if you need me to cite a recent example, go look at the people giving condolences to Charlie Kirk's family who claim to be on the side of the left. This section is not about condoning bullying families because that is just a part of political discussion at this point, and manipulating the masses using a wealth of resources to obtain the moral high ground in spite of your many crimes against humanity is literally just the reality of political campaigns. What this section is about is how people can strip people down to just the universally recognized "good" elements to make someone look like a decent human, i.e. In the wake of Charlie Kirk's assassination, the narrative was made to essentially be "If you move past his political beliefs, he was a decent family man." But I feel like that this is an at best fundamentally broken way of looking at someone's character and at worst actively dishonest, it is no better than if someone were to look at someone with major depression and say "if you take away the mental illness they are really just incredibly lazy." I'm not going to sit here and imply that someone who is depressed cannot be lazy, but what I am saying is that you can incredibly easily interpret whatever you want however you want through the simple combination of Willful ignorance and Cherry picking.
"Separate the art from the artist"[edit]
I hate this phrase because art literally cannot exist without an artist, is this biased against AI "Art"? Yes and congratulations, you get half a point for having a modicum of literacy. If you separate art from the artist then all you have is a product, and even then, products can have messaging and opinion to express, separating Kanye West from Vultures does not change the fact that one of the lyrics in these songs refers to a woman as a mere reference, if you separate The Binding of Isaac from Edmund McMillan, it doesn't change the fact that there are inherent Christian themes in the game. The point I am trying to make with all of this is that separating the art from the artist does not change the fact that the artist put a part of themselves in the art somehow, and using this phrase to excuse something about the art and the artist is ignorant of both the art and the artist.
