Howdy folks

Long-time reader, first-time poster, etc.

My first time writing anything here, so apologies in advance if this belongs elsewhere.

I should have expected something of the kind when Dawkins' trollishness re sexual harassment went relatively unremarked (IMHO), but I really think that a discussion of male circumcision does not belong on the FGM page in any way shape or form. Yes, in both cases the "subjects" ("victims" is not globally appropriate IMO) are under the age of consent. However, somehow I think that getting jumped by your family and cut up with a rusty razor or unwashed broken bottle is a little different from having a procedure done by a skilled surgical tech with anesthesia. At the very least, I (having been circumcised around age 8 by a mohel on medical advice, I forget why) do not feel terribly traumatized.

And before anybody asks - secular Jew, cryptobuddhist

Is it a problem that this happens before the age of consent? Yep. Is it the same size of problem as FGM? Hell no.

Again, sorry if this is the wrong place for this. mOnly reason I did not stick it on talk:FGM is beccause that discussion is over 2 years old.

Cheers Joe
