Voting and opinions on using this[edit]

  • For. One should always vote early and often for things one worked on. humanUser talk:Human 11:52, 28 January 2008 (EST)
  • My vote: well ... , that is ... , do I have to declare an interest? Oh hell Yes.SusanPurrrrrrr 12:01, 28 January 2008 (EST)
  • And lo, DogP hath declareth it to be overflowing with wiki-goodness. DogP 11:23, 28 January 2008 (EST)

polls open[edit]

For one week? Less? Nobody is even voting "no" yet (I assume "SPAARTAAAAAA!" is a yes, but I might be wrong). Someone email Bohdan to come over and tell us he hates it, please. humanUser talk:Human 15:21, 29 January 2008 (EST)

He was here wandalising and we forgot to tell him to come vote this down! And, since no one else seems to care, I'll "close the polls" sometime Monday Feb 4. Vote early and often! humanUser talk:Human 11:15, 1 February 2008 (EST)
Although turnout was low, apparently this idea has been approved by unanimous acclamation. I'll copy it over to the main page shortly. humanUser talk:Human 15:43, 4 February 2008 (EST)

cover story nomination[edit]

I think this is a prime example of what we are handi-capable of and it should be front-paged forthwith! humanUser talk:Human 23:25, 27 January 2008 (EST)

No further comment in a year. I reckon it would look a bit peculiar as a cover story. Can I take down the domination? ЩєазєюіδWeaselly.jpgMethinks it is a Weasel 11:22, 2 March 2009 (EST)
Sure... ħumanUser talk:Human 22:52, 2 March 2009 (EST)
Perhaps it could be in cat:best of amusement, though? ħumanUser talk:Human 22:53, 2 March 2009 (EST)

Essays[edit]

Are Essays fair game for nomination, or are the cover stories limited to mainspace articles?--Bayesupdate 11:00, 29 January 2008 (EST)

Anything good, I think, is ok to nominate. If the mob "agrees" then it surely is good enough for the front page. IMHO, anyway. humanUser talk:Human 11:15, 29 January 2008 (EST)
One point: if there are lots of "coverstories" they'll be seen rarely. Suggest somehow limiting nummber or separating into smaller batches so that each one gets a fair go? - probably not a good idea- overcomplicating? But restrict number at any one time? SusanPurrrrrrr 12:18, 29 January 2008 (EST)
One way to make sure each coverstory gets its due might be to randomly select one each day as opposed to each time the page is loaded (without replacement until all have been featured at least once), a la Wikipedia's featured article.--Bayesupdate 14:06, 29 January 2008 (EST)
But ... I mean ... That'd ... where's all my beautiful dpl going to vanish to then? (turns away sobbing) SusanPurrrrrrr 14:24, 29 January 2008 (EST)
... and, who'd be responsible for selecting & inserting every week/day/month? Ha!
(it might be possible to dpl link to the date .... Hmm...)SusanPurrrrrrr 14:38, 29 January 2008 (EST)

<-- While I prefer the simplicity of a random pick at every reload, no matter how many files are on the list, an auto-rotation with daily picks might be nice, too. Susan, have a look at the "nextprim" template and how that works with dates and conditionals to pick the correct entry to output.

Anyway, why not worry about this when we actually have a burden of too many good articles? I think all the "best ofs" comprise under fifty titles all told. humanUser talk:Human 14:47, 29 January 2008 (EST)

Got it: amending in 5 ... 4 ... 3 ... 2. SusanPurrrrrrr 15:07, 29 January 2008 (EST)
Shall we not change it now? If we want to implement a new version, let's sandbox it somewhere safe, since people are looking at the current version to decide if they like it or not... humanUser talk:Human 15:19, 29 January 2008 (EST)
For reasons best known to itself it don't work. Someone tell me what's wrong with including: (|randomseed=20241121 from [1]). What I do rong? SusanPurrrrrrr 15:32, 29 January 2008 (EST)
Off the top of my head, doesn't it at least need some other supporting file or tag or something? Or is it supposed to be able to do this completely automatically (ie, pick a random file the first time it's used each day and remember it all day)? Did you include "randomcount=1"? Just ideas... humanUser talk:Human 16:01, 29 January 2008 (EST)

Font[edit]

I'd suggest an olden looking font but nothing too hard to readth. Maybe some gold leaf around the margins?CЯacke® 17:52, 29 January 2008 (EST)

For what? I accumulated a lot of olden looking fonts while helping make the Ten Commandments article look, well, olden. humanUser talk:Human 11:16, 1 February 2008 (EST)

Random?[edit]

Where is the random part if the story isn't randomly generated? [[User:K61824|]][[User_talk:K61824|]] 19:05, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

The one that appears on any given loading of the main page is randomly chosen from all the "approved" cover stories... ħumanUser talk:Human 21:04, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
