2025 RationalWiki 'Oregon Plan' Fundraiser

There is no RationalWiki without you. We are a small non-profit with no staff—we are hundreds of volunteers who document pseudoscience and crankery around the world every day. We will never allow ads because we must remain independent. We cannot rely on big donors with corresponding big agendas. We are not the largest website around, but we believe we play an important role in defending truth and objectivity.

Fighting pseudoscience isn't free.
We are 100% user-supported! Help and donate $5, $10, $20 or whatever you can today with PayPal Logo.png!

Based on a vaporized article (Talk:Fluther). Feel free to edit.

Fluther is an answer site where people ask and answer questions. Questions have to be serious, as well as the answers--at least they are supposed to be, unlike Answerbag officially and Yahoo Answers in large part. Wikipedia’s Reference Desk gets far more (informed) respondents and you can ask as many questions as you want; but the questions are open for only a week. In Fluther, the questions are always open.

Links to sites like Wikipedia seemed to be hampered by the “Textile” script. For example here, one can refer to the planet Venus or Venus (mythology), but in Fluther, both links are likely to wind up in the same article. Likely there have been many cases of links from there to Wikipedia wound up in DAB pages.

Unlike Answerbag and Yahoo! Answers, the moderators tend to be helpful. If a question is removed, they tell you why and give you a chance to re-submit. The moderators seem cooler than the other sites.

RW has “lutz,” Fluther has “lurve” as in “lurve points.”

Members of Fluther call themselves “flutherites.” While one can generally use any avatar, many prefer to use jellyfish, which leads to members to also sometimes calling themselves “jellies.”
