On 20 January 2018, Kalvi sent a letter to the production company demanding that a special screening be arranged for a 6-person panel. The panel was composed of historians R. S. Khangarot, B. L. Gupta, Kapil Kumar and Roshan Sharma. The panel also included Vishwaraj Singh, a member of the Mewar royal family, and Jagmal Singh, a member of the Banswara royal family.[1]
In January 2018, despite demands for the movie to be banned, the Supreme Court of India allowed its release. The court noted that the Central Board of Film Certification
had approved its released after requested modifications. The state of Gujarat saw a slew of vandalism and arson after the verdict. Karna Sena and another Hindu right-wing group, Mahakaal Sena, set several buses on fire and vandalized a movie theater. In fear of further violence, movie theaters in Gujarat decided to not screen the movie.[2] Violence was also reported from the city of Gurugram,[3] and Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan states.[4]
On 24 January 2018, Kalvi stated that they would stop the release of the movie at any cost. He also stated that the director was responsible on the then ongoing violence and any violence that followed. Police had to be deployed at the historical Chittorgarh
fort as some women protestors had vowed to commit jauhar
(self-immolation).[5]
The movie was released on 25 January 2018. On 29 January, two members of the Karni Sena's proposed panel, R. S. Khangarot and B. L. Gupta watched the movie in Bangaluru and stated that movie will not hurt anyone's feelings.[6]
On 02 February 2018, a few members of the Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena watched the movie. Later, the Mumbai leader of the faction, Yogendra Singh Katar said that they found that the movie suitably glories Rajputs and withdrew their protest.[7] Soon afterwards, Gogamedi expelled them and said that the protests will continue.[8]

In January 2019, alleged members of Karni Sena protested against the movie Manikarnika
, based on hearsay that in the movie Rani Laximbai of Jhansi
, a Hindu queen, was shown dancing and having a relationship of the wrong sort with a British colonizer.[9] Soon afterwards, Shri Rajput Karni Sena issued a clarification that they were not protesting against the movie as it was not related the Rajputs and claimed that protestors were not their member[10]

On 29 July 2021, members of Karni Sena prevented the inter-faith marriage of a 23-year-old Muslim man and a 19-year-old Hindu woman in Balia, Uttar Pradesh.[11]
2023[edit]
On 13 August 2023, a disgruntled former member tried to shoot the Shri Rajput Karni Sena state president Bhanwar Singh Saladiya during a meeting in Udaipur.[12]
On 05 December 2023, Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, aged 53, was shot dead in Jaipur by unknown assassins at his home. Naveen Shekhawat, a neighbor, was also killed and was allegedly with the assassins initially according to the police. Gogamedi's security guard was also injured by a bullet.[13][14]
A man identifying a member of Lawrence Bishnoi's gang took responsibility for the murder. Members of the faction resorted to stone-pelting and arson, demanding that the assassins to be murdered in 48 hours.[14][15]

On 06 April 2024, 5 women threaten to self-immolate in protest outside the BJP headquarter in Gandhinagar. But they were stopped and put under house arrest. On 09 April 2024, Raj Shekhawat was detained at the Ambedabad airport. He was planned to protest outside the BJP headquarters.[16]
On 12 July 2024, members of Shri Rajput Karni Sena and Rashtriya Karni Sena clashed with gunfire being exchanged. Mahipal Singh, a Shri Rajput Karni Sena leader, suffered non-firearm related injuries.[17]
In 27 October 2024, the President of Kshatriya Karni Sena, Raj Shekhawat, offered at INR 1,11,11,111 (about USD 1,26,471) to any police official or inmate to kill the gang leader Lawrence Bishnoi
. The former member of Karni Sena Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi had been shot dead by unknown assasins on 05 December 2023 in Jaipur, Rajasthan. An alleged member of Lawrence Bishnoi's gang had taken responsibility for the murder later.[18]

On 21 March 2021, Rajya Sabha MP Ramji Lal Suman

) stated in the Parliament that since Indian Muslims, who are considered the descendent of Babur
, are called traitors, the descendants of Rajput king Rana Sanga
, should also be considered traitors, as he had allegedly invited Babur to India to aid him against Ibrahim Lodi
. This statement enraged Karni Sena and other Kshatriya-caste groups. The President of the Uttar Pradesh wing of Karna Sena, Sandeep Sena, demanded an apology from Ramji Lal Suman. Ramji Lal Suman was forced to approached the Allahabad High Court for protection after received threats of violence from Karna Sena and other similar groups.[19][20]
On 27 March 2025, member of Karni Sena tried to enter Ramji Lal Suman's house in Agra using a bulldozer, failing which they resorted to vandalism by destroying furniture kept outdoors and cars parked nearby. Several police personnel were injured as they tried to suppress the violence. The attackers were repelled by using a lathi charge (baton charge).[21] Karni Sena leader Okendra Singh Rana was charged with rioting, attempt to murder, and trespassing among other charges.[22] Also in March, Mohah Chauhan, a Karni Sena leader, announced a reward of INR 25,00,000 (about USD 28465) for killing Ramji Lal Suman.[23]
On 20 March 2024, the body of Vinay Kumar Singh was found with a bullet wound to his head. He was the President of the Jharkhand state-wing of Karni Sena.[24]
