Conservapedia is Educational![edit]

Not WIGO:CP or even TWIGO:CP worthy, since it is a rather old item.

Something I learned recently from CP's Iowa Straw Poll article: the straw poll is less than worthless as anything other than a PR stunt for Iowa. According to the article, "Since it began in 1979, the winner of the poll has gone on to win the Republican nomination two out of four times." (Bear in mind that sentence was written shortly after the 2007 straw poll but before the 2008 primaries, and it hasn't been updated since then. It is now 2 out of 5.) Someone who wins the straw poll has at best a 50/50 chance of winning the Republican nomination. Further, only one person has won the Straw Poll and gone on to become President: George W Bush. Meanwhile two people have lost (or at least not won) the straw poll and became President: Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush.

I'm sure this comes as no surprise to anyone who, y'know, actually pays attention to the world and remembers from election to election. But it was a surprise to me that CP wouldn't try to justify it at all or anything

It's also interesting to note that according to CP in 2004 Bush and Steve Forbes spent millions on the Straw Poll to garner votes. Funny...I didn't think Forbes was even running in 2004. Note that this was in the first edit, and has never been corrected, 81 changes later as of this writing. The article cited was written in 1999, yet somehow knew what would happen in the 2003 Straw Poll which for some unexplained reason a) took place in 2004 and b) took place at all, since there was an incumbant Republican President.
