User:Sprocket J Cogswell/Aura reading
Most of the time I consider myself rational, or at least practical. I accept that all humans have a great capacity for delusion; that includes all of us, me, and you reading this. Everyone. As I see it, one of our jobs on this planet is to learn the character and texture of our delusions, and to be watchful that they don't do too much damage as we dance along our way.
Being rational, in my case, does not mean constructing grand verbose intellectual logical schemata; rather it means facing every moment in a pragmatic frame of mind, open to external possibilities, and aware of as much of my internal state as may be.
I see auras in and around people. Hell, I saw the aura of a canary bird one time: it was really cool looking.
I have never been paid to draw auras, nor used this ability to try to get laid. I have sometimes taken a table at a new age faire and drawn people's auras for a donation to the hosting organization. Been years since I did that in public, but the vision still works. I see what I see, and sometimes with further inquiry I can say something about what it "means."
What I do know is that many people's auras share common features, but there is usually something individual about each one, often outstandingly so. Usually people are already aware of what the various features or qualities of their aura refer to. I see this whole business as a bit like a Myers-Briggs reading: not deeply significant, but useful for prompting reflection and discussion.
It ain't magic, unless you acknowledge that living and breathing is magic. Some people will not accept that there are vast stretches of reality that they cannot understand, and create (or accept) all kinds of stories to give themselves the illusion of knowledge and control. For those, it is tempting to call it magic just to get a rise out of them, but I think it is better to keep to simple observable things.
There is more I'm willing to say about auras themselves, if anyone is interested. Sprocket J Cogswell (talk) 15:27, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
