Taken away your tech rights,
Taken away your tech rights,
You had no call to instigate the filter like that.
I agree. Abuse filters should be for catching spammers and vandals, not sweeping disputes between editors under the rug.
The case for abuse is flimsy at best. Take me to coop if you really think I did anything wrong and we can hash it out. But this ain't the way to go. Blue's filter edits need reverting.
Yeah, I think that was out of line (she did it for HK too a while back before changing her mind - might be a good idea to do that here too, hmm?). Somebody fix it and let's forget about it, we already have enough arguments going on and I was totes just about to start another...
Totes isn't a word. Anyway, Blue is using the rights granted in a way she shouldn't. There is a case for rights abuse here - much more so than anything I have done
There is no case for "rights abuse!" Not only were you not affected in any meaningful wa y, there is nothing that stipulates what grounds for removal of tech rights.
Technically, Ace was within his rights, as the techs are appointed by the moderators — although he probably ought to have left it up to some other moderator.
As I was within my rights to reinstate them. Really, only a couple people even know how to use the edit filter and I've done some good work with it. This may have been laziness on my part but it's not as if I caused any harm to Ace with one warning.
If you think this is an acceptable use of the abuse filter system, we might need to discuss some restrictions on what kinds of abuse filters are allowed.
The thing is, while I do consider it an abuse of the edit filter, the damage done was not even worth this HCM. The edit filter could've been much worse than a simple warning not to edit Voxhumana's talkpage. If Blue had wanted to, she could've programmed it, for example, to take away all his user rights and block him for a period of time. THAT, perhaps, would've been worth all the current bitching. But not what really happened. That wasn't worth this nonsense.
I would think that discussion would be good to have regardless of this incident. The filter is a very powerful tool and I do think it can be used for non-vandalism prevention purposes. My Ace warning filter was probably lazy moderating and not wholly necessary- especially as it seems to have caused a minor HCM.
I regret ever installing the edit filter. Just look at RWW, it's now being used to prevent Brx from editing in some fashion (the filter is private, so I don't know what it does actually, but I can guess).
Actually I'll confirm that there is no anti-Brx filter at RWW. The one you're talking about is an editing rate limit filter.
Please let me offer that I liked it a lot better when Nx was fucked off instead of back here being a bitch and making points or whatever nastiness he was doing by pushing the voting system and creating half the problem Trent found. Bravo, Nx. Nice "HCM." Way to promote order.
Personally, I liked it a lot better when bitter grudge-holders didn't derail every single conversation they took part in. But what do I know? I'm not exactly one of the popular Jocks.
I suspect Armond was using a device known as "hyperbole" there. In any case, are people trying to resolve disputes still or has this deteriorated into just another bitchfest?
Personally, I liked it a lot better when bitter grudge-holders didn't use the website's abuse filter to take sides in personal quarrels.
The amount of self-righteousness here is stifling. Let's not pretend this was a "personal quarrel." Or that I have a "bitter grudge" with Ace. Ace was quite clearly being an asshole, even Trent spoke up about it.
If it was a community issue rather than a personal quarrel, it should have been brought up at Chicken Coop/ATiM for community input. If it wasn't, it shouldn't have been fixed with abuse filter changes.
There is a fair amount of greyish area between a community issue and a personal quarrel, but I'm content to let this tempest in a teapot die quickly.
Virtually everything that happens around here can be traced to a grudge - even when the actions are quite legitimate.
I don't know if that's unique to RW, or just the results of the "internet" mentality.
