Actually isn't this done by Ken. Also isn't this the wrong namespace? - User 05:11, 22 December 2008 (EST)

- Okay it is in CP space now, so what is the plan forward with this article? - User 07:42, 22 December 2008 (EST)
- The writing style needs to go unless it's a funspace thing. Then we need to look up the actual sources used on CP and elsewhere. Apparently it is true that atheists are more uncharitable (I think even Dawkins admitted it), but I have heard contrary opinions too. Let's just try and find the facts and then draw some conclusions, as we should. ArmondikoVnarchist 08:00, 22 December 2008 (EST)
- I think that the evidence was that in the US (and quite possibly elsewhere) atheists do not give as much money to charity although Bill Gates seems to have helped balance things a bit (I believe he's an atheist). The guy who mans the atheist desk on Answers.com (see Ken's posting there) says that atheists possibly do different things to contribute to charity like giving up their timw. The problem is that atheists don't belong to specific organisations which drives charitable giving. One of the problems with religious charities is that it, often but not always, has some strings attached, such as attending religious services, prayer or is withheld from family-planning groups. Of course in Europe a lot of what would have been charitable donations in the US is paid out of taxes so European atheists pay their share. My own experience of charitable fund-raising in the US is that the rich have to be seen making their charitable donations so everyone knows how "worthy" they are. Of course this is a anecdotal and I would not wish to extrapolate Schlafly statistics out of my personal experience. It should also be remembered that in the US donations to churches counts as charitable giving (so I understand) and thereby funds some of the limos and private jets of various pastors. -- Lily Ta, wack! 08:28, 22 December 2008 (EST)
- Now that would make an interesting article, much better than "teh assfly said some something bad about atheists, he is wrong because he is stoopid" that was in the article I just shot. - π 12:44, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
