Zoos: Should They Stay or Get Outta Here? Written By: Jasmine

Just like you–Yes, I’m talking to you–everyone really needs to know that zoos are IMPERATIVE to animals. I am convinced, and I now know this because they educate the public, help endangered animals, and are entertaining. If you disagree, then read this, because I have lots of evidence, and you can’t argue with THAT.

First of all, zoos are good because most of them are a good way to educate people about animals. According to the article titled Zoo Pros: Rescuing and conserving Animals, I’ve only been on a field trip once, and it was at the zoo, but I’ve gone there a few times with my family. An example of this is when I saw a hammerhead shark for the first time, and I was surprised when I saw them: They look like they’re frowning, but they’re not; that’s just the way their mouths look. Unlike the circus, zoos are a more friendly and fun way to educate people about animals.

Second of all, zoos are good because they save many hurt, orphaned, endangered animals, and sometimes even bring them back from extinction. A lot of times when I’m in the car or riding the bus, I see lost animals like dogs wandering in the streets. The Article I read states that “Some zoos also take in neglected animals that otherwise wouldn’t have a home. Both the Baltimore Zoo and the Detroit Zoo have taken in polar bears rescued from a traveling circus. The Bronx Zoo took in an orphaned snow leopard from Pakistan in 2007. The cub, Leo, now spends his time playing and chasing small animals that wander into his pen.” And, yes, I know what you're thinking: animals won’t survive at zoos because they're trapped in a tiny cage. I just think people are overreacting when they say this. According to the same article I just mentioned, “...although zoo animals aren’t treated quite like guests at a four-star hotel, their care has improved tremendously. Zookeepers now understand that many animals, such as monkeys, bears and elephants need engaging activities to prevent boredom and mental stress. This is why you’ll often see chimps playing with toys or tigers “hunting” for a meal. So, next time you go to a zoo, think If the zookeepers have saved this many animals, they must love animals!

As you can see, Zoos are important and they always will be.

Ahem.

What do you think you’re doing!? You’re just sitting on your butt…waiting for something to happen…GET OFF YOUR BUTT AND GO TO THE ZOO!
