Draft talk:Adoption
Abortion is an option[edit]
I wonder if, in addition to telling parents who wants to abort their kids that "adoption is an option", we should also have signs at adoption agencies reminding them, "abortion is an option". I had a wife who was born to two first cousins who were drug and alcohol users, and they ended up apparently neglecting and/or abusing her until the age of two, when they gave her up for adoption. Then she always felt like her adoptive family didn't treat her as well as they would have treated a biological family member. She was often suicidal and said that she felt that biological parents should take responsibility for aborting their kid rather than giving their kid to adoptive parents to raise. Then again, one might argue that the problem was that they didn't give her up for adoption early enough, because it seems those first two years had a severely detrimental long-lasting psychological effects. I'm sure there are many people who had unpleasant adoptive or foster home situations who felt, at one time or another, that they wished they'd died when they was a baby, stillborn.
