Starting outline[edit]
I wanted to establish a basic outline for this article that we can expand upon or edit later.
- INTRODUCTION: This should explain what computer addiction is, why it's disputed as a disorder, etc. Essentially, it should make the case that the topic merits a RW article and fulfills the mission statement in one or more ways.
- ADDICTION: One or more sections describing what addiction itself is. Specifically, it should explain the science and biology that makes an addiction an addiction and establish the guidelines by which computer addiction is evaluated as an actual disorder.
- TYPES: One or more sections detailing each alleged type of computer addiction. Specifically, it should at least tackle computer addiction generally, internet, social media, porn, and gaming. A brief summary of the available research into each type is warranted, but save the deep stuff for later.
- EVIDENCE: One or more sections talking about the evidence (or lack thereof) for computer addiction as a real disorder. This should be detailed while still being understandable to a layperson.
- ALTERNATIVES: One or more sections should provide other possible explanations for why some people believe they or others have computer addiction beyond the definition of addiction. Make sure to note that non-addictive =/= healthy.
- CONCLUSION: A summary and a "where do we go from here?"-type section.
Also, things that need to be talked about in some way but which may not warrant full sections:
- MEDIA: Essentially, analyze how the topic of computer addiction is handled in the media, per part 4 of the RW mission.
