Does the obverse say "100 GRAINS STERLING SILVER" with a date of 1971 and a picture of Ben Franklin? 03:13, 21 October 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, it does! Aboriginal Noise Punkrock 03:15, 21 October 2009 (UTC)
- Here are some images of a similar coin. As it contains about 4 dollars worth of sterling by today's values I think it's a kind of "here, I'm thinking of you, now remember me" token, but I can't find more than a few references to similar coins and they fail to identify it. Wouldn't surprise me if it was the kind of thing you could order a few dozen of from the Franklin Mint or some similar outfit, but who knows. 03:20, 21 October 2009 (UTC)
- That makes a world of sense. This has been a mystery to me since I was a child (I found it out in my back yard circa 25 years ago), and I always wondered who Feick was and why he was important enough to have a private treasury. Seems he may not have been that important (no one from Glassport is :) ) and there are plenty of similar coins, at least on the obverse, to warrant something similar to what you've described. Thanks for your help. Aboriginal Noise Punkrock 03:26, 21 October 2009 (UTC)
