I remember an american friend having a conversation over friendface about this, confused the hell out of me at the time but this has sort of cleared it up. It turns out, you can turn this into politics, as one of the wingnuts in the conversation was like "yeah, let's do it like the [libruls] and just give points to everyone" and more rhetoric of variable coherency. Was he supportive or opposing a playoff, since President Obama said, several times, on TV that he'd like to see a college football playoff. Jsonitsac 00:53, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
As someone who is not American I am only guessing at how the system works, but I have been watching some college bowl this year and a problem I think I can see with the system is that teams have to convince other teams outside of their conference to play them, correct? If the teams aren't playing each other, how can you rank them against each other? It seems to me that the teams with high rankings in previous seasons can just ignore a good up and coming team from outside their conference and prevent them even being ranked highly because they are not playing against the previously high ranked teams. - π 01:56, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
Even though I am an American, I have no fucking idea how the BCS works. But I do know this: <snark> it combines the things I like best about sports: computers, ballots, and lobbying! I love it! </snark> Tetronian you're clueless 02:03, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
That's why some sportswriters refer to it as a cartel, some have even called for investigations by Congress to investigate restriction of trade issues. It should be noted that most of these non-conference schedules are made years in advance (for example Virginia Tech's non-conference schedule is filled through 2016). This makes it even more difficult for the small teams to get respect.Jsonitsac (talk) 04:14, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
