Qur'an 33:1[edit]

O Prophet! Fear God, and do not obey the unbelievers and the hypocrites. God is Knowledgeable and Wise.

Qur'an 33:1 Notes[edit]

Apparently this means that secular, non-Muslim laws are to be ignored...

Qur'an 33:2[edit]

And follow what is revealed to you from your Lord. God is fully aware of what you do.

Qur'an 33:2 Notes[edit]

Religious laws ONLY

Qur'an 33:3[edit]

And put your trust in God. God is enough as a trustee.

Qur'an 33:3 Notes[edit]

The same god who promises to create humanity only for the vast majority of these humans to burn in hell forever? How trustworthy!

Qur'an 33:4[edit]

God did not place two hearts inside any man's body. Nor did He make your wives whom you equate with your mothers, your actual mothers. Nor did He make your adopted sons, your actual sons. These are your words coming out of your mouths. God speaks the truth, and guides to the path.

Qur'an 33:4 Notes[edit]

Basically, adoption is not a thing. Prior to this, in Arabic culture an adopted son was effectively a real son. As will be mentioned later on, this revelation came at a time when Mohammed's adopted son Zayd divorced Mohammed's hot cousin Zaynab. If Zayd was Mohammed's true son, then Mohammed would be barred from marrying his son's ex-wife. But since Zayd was not Mohammed's son, Zaynab was free to marry Mohammed.

Qur'an 33:5[edit]

Call them after their fathers; that is more equitable with God. But if you do not know their fathers, then your brethren in faith and your friends. There is no blame on you if you err therein, barring what your hearts premeditates. God is Forgiving and Merciful.

Qur'an 33:5 Notes[edit]

This is also related to the aforementioned situation.

Qur'an 33:6[edit]

The Prophet is more caring of the believers than they are of themselves, and his wives are mothers to them. And blood-relatives are closer to one another in God’s Book than the believers or the emigrants, though you should do good to your friends. That is inscribed in the Book.

Qur'an 33:6 Notes[edit]

Basically, being a relative is more important than being a member of the faithful. Tribe over religion?

Qur'an 33:7[edit]

Recall that We received a pledge from the prophets, and from you, and from Noah, and Abraham, and Moses, and Jesus son of Mary. We received from them a solemn pledge.

Qur'an 33:7 Notes[edit]

The prophets of Judaism and Christianity are still prophets in Islam.

Qur'an 33:8[edit]

That He may ask the sincere about their sincerity. He has prepared for the disbelievers a painful punishment.

Qur'an 33:8 Notes[edit]

Allah has to place these threats for disbelievers literally anywhere he can.

Qur'an 33:9[edit]

O you who believe! Remember God’s blessings upon you, when forces came against you, and We sent against them a wind, and forces you did not see. God is Observant of what you do.

Qur'an 33:9 Notes[edit]

Allah protects in mysterious ways

Qur'an 33:10[edit]

When they came upon you, from above you, and from beneath you; and the eyes became dazed, and the hearts reached the throats, and you harbored doubts about God.

Qur'an 33:10 Notes[edit]

Very mysterious ways, actually

Qur'an 33:11[edit]

There and then the believers were tested, and were shaken most severely.

Qur'an 33:11 Notes[edit]

Allah's tests make absolutely no sense, but that lack of sense is probably a test too.

Qur'an 33:12[edit]

When the hypocrites and those in whose hearts is sickness said, “God and His Messenger promised us nothing but illusion.”

Qur'an 33:12 Notes[edit]

What evidence did Allah supposedly provide to show that anything coming from Mohammed's mouth is real?

Qur'an 33:13[edit]

And when a group of them said, “O people of Yathrib, you cannot make a stand, so retreat.” And a faction of them asked the Prophet to excuse them, saying, “Our homes are exposed,” although they were not exposed. They only wanted to flee.

Qur'an 33:13 Notes[edit]

What does this have to do with anything mentioned in the previous verses of this chapter?

Qur'an 33:14[edit]

Had it been invaded from its sides, and they were asked to dissent, they would have done so with little hesitation.

Qur'an 33:14 Notes[edit]

Allah needs to learn how to stick to a certain topic and stay coherent for more than five minutes.

Qur'an 33:15[edit]

Although they had made a pledged to God, in the past, that they will not turn their backs. A pledge to God is a responsibility.

Qur'an 33:15 Notes[edit]

Did these people knowingly and willingly make that pledge? It doesn't count if the people making this pledge don't entirely understand what they're accepting or were unfairly coerced into it.

Qur'an 33:16[edit]

Say, “Flight will not benefit you, if you flee from death or killing, even then you will be given only brief enjoyment.”

Qur'an 33:16 Notes[edit]

No retreat. Ever.

Qur'an 33:17[edit]

Say, “Who is it who will shield you from God, if He intends adversity for you, or intends mercy for you?” Besides God, they will find for themselves neither friend nor helper.

Qur'an 33:17 Notes[edit]

Allah admits that he "intends adversity" for people. What a loving god!

Qur'an 33:18[edit]

God already knows the hinderers among you, and those who say to their brethren, “Come and join us.” Rarely do they mobilize for battle.

Qur'an 33:18 Notes[edit]

Is this meant to vilify everybody who chooses not to engage in direct combat?

Qur'an 33:19[edit]

Being stingy towards you. And when fear approaches, you see them staring at you—their eyes rolling—like someone fainting at death. Then, when panic is over, they whip you with sharp tongues. They resent you any good. These have never believed, so God has nullified their works; a matter easy for God.

Qur'an 33:19 Notes[edit]

This verse throw any charitable interpretation of the previous verse right out the window.

Qur'an 33:20[edit]

They assumed that the confederates had not withdrawn. But were the confederates to advance, they would wish they were in the desert with the Bedouins, inquiring about your news. And if they were among you, they would have done little fighting.

Qur'an 33:20 Notes[edit]

This verse certainly fails to help matters.

Qur'an 33:21[edit]

You have an excellent example in the Messenger of God; for anyone who seeks God and the Last Day, and remembers God frequently.

Qur'an 33:21 Notes[edit]

Ah yes, the man who wanted his critics and dissenters dead is a great example. His slaves and abused wives are sure to agree. He seems like such a trustworthy fellow when telling people to obey his every command and not even hesitate in battle.

Qur'an 33:22[edit]

And when the believers saw the confederates, they said, “This is what God and His messenger have promised us; and God and His messenger have told the truth.” And it only increased them in faith and submission.

Qur'an 33:22 Notes[edit]

They really believed that this "messenger" was truthful because he said one thing that seems to have an iota of truth to it?

Qur'an 33:23[edit]

Of the believers are men who are true to what they pledged to God. Some of them have fulfilled their vows; and some are still waiting, and never wavering.

Qur'an 33:23 Notes[edit]

This is yet another verse claiming that true believers are willing to fight for Allah and shall never hesitate to fight when given such a command.

Qur'an 33:24[edit]

That God may reward the truthful for their truthfulness; and punish the hypocrites, if He wills, or pardon them. God is Forgiving and Merciful.

Qur'an 33:24 Notes[edit]

Allah should try to actually be "truthful" if he claims to value "truthfulness" so much.

Qur'an 33:25[edit]

God repelled the disbelievers in their rage; they gained no advantage. God thus spared the believers combat. God is Strong and Mighty.

Qur'an 33:25 Notes[edit]

What does that mean? He "spared the believers combat" in what way exactly?

Qur'an 33:26[edit]

And He brought down from their strongholds those of the People of the Book who backed them, and He threw terror into their hearts. Some of them you killed, and others you took captive.

Qur'an 33:26 Notes[edit]

This is supposed to make Allah look like the good guy... how exactly?

Qur'an 33:27[edit]

And He made you inherit their land, and their homes, and their possessions, and a region you have never stepped on. God has power over all things.

Qur'an 33:27 Notes[edit]

So basically, any time you go to war with someone, even if they are Peoples of the Book (Christians, Jews, Zoroastrians, and Buddhists), their shit's your now!

Qur'an 33:28[edit]

O Prophet! Say to your wives, “If you desire the life of this world and its finery, then let me compensate you, and release you kindly.

Qur'an 33:28 Notes[edit]

After several war verses, this guy remembers that he needs to pay his wives any attention.

Qur'an 33:29[edit]

But if you desire God, His Messenger, and the Home of the Hereafter, then God has prepared for the righteous among you a magnificent compensation.”

Qur'an 33:29 Notes[edit]

This guy seriously just uses such manipulation and coercion to get what he wants from his wives.

Qur'an 33:30[edit]

O wives of the Prophet! Whoever of you commits a proven indecency, the punishment for her will be doubled. And that would be easy for God.

Qur'an 33:30 Notes[edit]

This "messenger" uses Allah as a means of manipulating and abusing his wives. How surprising...

Qur'an 33:31[edit]

But whoever of you remains obedient to God and His Messenger, and acts righteously, We will give her a double reward; and We have prepared for her a generous provision.

Qur'an 33:31 Notes[edit]

This stick naturally comes bundled with a carrot.

Qur'an 33:32[edit]

O wives of the Prophet! You are not like any other women, if you observe piety. So do not speak too softly, lest the sick at heart lusts after you, but speak in an appropriate manner.

Qur'an 33:32 Notes[edit]

Mohammed's wives are special, because he said so.

Qur'an 33:33[edit]

And settle in your homes; and do not display yourselves, as in the former days of ignorance. And perform the prayer, and give regular charity, and obey God and His Messenger. God desires to remove all impurity from you, O People of the Household, and to purify you thoroughly.

Qur'an 33:33 Notes[edit]

Allah says this in a book filled to the brim with "impurity" even by its own nonsensical standards.

Qur'an 33:34[edit]

And remember what is recited in your homes of God's revelations and wisdom. God is Kind and Informed.

Qur'an 33:34 Notes[edit]

Allah doesn't actually care about any of that, though. He just seems addicted to this self-glazing.

Qur'an 33:35[edit]

Muslim men and Muslim women, believing men and believing women, obedient men and obedient women, truthful men and truthful women, patient men and patient women, humble men and humble women, charitable men and charitable women, fasting men and fasting women, men who guard their chastity and women who guard, men who remember God frequently and women who remember—God has prepared for them a pardon, and an immense reward.

Qur'an 33:35 Notes[edit]

Notably, strict obedience and belief come first.

Qur'an 33:36[edit]

It is not for any believer, man or woman, when God and His Messenger have decided a matter, to have liberty of choice in their decision. Whoever disobeys God and His Messenger has gone far astray.

Qur'an 33:36 Notes[edit]

This verse tells people not to think for themselves or make their own decisions! This is especially problematic when this "Messenger" died around 14 centuries ago.

Qur'an 33:37[edit]

When you said to him whom God had blessed, and you had favored, “Keep your wife to yourself, and fear God.” But you hid within yourself what God was to reveal. And you feared the people, but it was God you were supposed to fear. Then, when Zaid ended his relationship with her, We gave her to you in marriage, that there may be no restriction for believers regarding the wives of their adopted sons, when their relationship has ended. The command of God was fulfilled.

Qur'an 33:37 Notes[edit]

So... this is a BIG issue within Islam. Basically, Mohammed had an adopted son, Zayd, and his first cousin Zaynab was a widow. So he had Zayd and Zaynab marry. Then, Zayd and Zaynab divorce, for reasons that are unclear. But, then, Mohammed and Zaynab marry, which was a problem for two very big reasons. First, adopted children were the same as natural children, meaning Zaynab was off limits to her father-in-law. Second, Mohammed already had 4 wives at the time, meaning that taking a 5th wife was breaking the Quran. So Mohammed has two revelations; first off, adopted kids aren't actually your kids, so Zayd can go pound sand, second, it's the will of Allah they get married so shut up.

Qur'an 33:38[edit]

There is no blame on the Prophet regarding what God has ordained for him. Such is the pattern of God among those who passed before. The command of God is an absolute decree.

Qur'an 33:38 Notes[edit]

Translation: Allah said that the Prophet can do whatever he wants because Allah conveniently said so.

Qur'an 33:39[edit]

Those who deliver the messages of God, and fear Him, and never fear anyone except God. God is sufficient as a reckoner.

Qur'an 33:39 Notes[edit]

This religion is based on fear and control.

Qur'an 33:40[edit]

Muhammad is not the father of any of your men; but he is the Messenger of God, and the seal of the prophets. God is Cognizant of everything.

Qur'an 33:40 Notes[edit]

Allah claims to be "Cognizant of everything" when clearly having no idea what kind of world he supposedly created for the humans whom he also supposedly created to worship him.

Qur'an 33:41[edit]

O you who believe, remember God with frequent remembrance.

Qur'an 33:41 Notes[edit]

A lifetime of indoctrination will guarantee that believers will very frequently remember him.

Qur'an 33:42[edit]

And glorify Him morning and evening.

Qur'an 33:42 Notes[edit]

Allah just seems insecure and pathetic for an allegedly omnipotent being. Why would an actual god command these lowly humans to constantly give him positive attention or face infinite punishment?

Qur'an 33:43[edit]

It is He who reaches out to you, and His angels, to bring you out of darkness into the light. And He is Ever-Merciful towards the believers.

Qur'an 33:43 Notes[edit]

He has yet to prove his existence or that of these supposed angels.

Qur'an 33:44[edit]

Their greeting on the Day they meet Him is, “Peace,” and He has prepared for them a generous reward.

Qur'an 33:44 Notes[edit]

Allah knows that he's way too unlovable for people to naturally worship him. This is why he has to bribe and threaten people.

Qur'an 33:45[edit]

O prophet! We have sent you as a witness, and a bearer of good news, and a warner.

Qur'an 33:45 Notes[edit]

Allah should have sent actual evidence with this "witness" to prove that he's not just speaking nonsense.

Qur'an 33:46[edit]

And a caller towards God by His leave, and an illuminating beacon.

Qur'an 33:46 Notes[edit]

This is bold from a god who believes that the sun orbits a flat earth.

Qur'an 33:47[edit]

And give the believers the good news that for them is a great reward.

Qur'an 33:47 Notes[edit]

Translation: You'll get otherworldly rewards for believing in Allah and fighting for him.

Qur'an 33:48[edit]

And do not obey the blasphemers and the hypocrites, and ignore their insults, and rely on God. God is a sufficient protector.

Qur'an 33:48 Notes[edit]

Translation: Don't listen to people who raise legitimate criticisms of Islam. After all, there can be no legitimate criticisms of Islam. Allah is all you need.

Qur'an 33:49[edit]

O you who believe! When you marry believing women, but then divorce them before you have touched them, there is no waiting period for you to observe in respect to them; but compensate them, and release them in a graceful manner.

Qur'an 33:49 Notes[edit]

A society that treats women with the same respect afforded to mean would have no need for this stupid law.

Qur'an 33:50[edit]

O Prophet! We have permitted to you your wives to whom you have given their dowries, and those you already have, as granted to you by God, and the daughters of your paternal uncle, and the daughters of your paternal aunts, and the daughters of your maternal uncle, and the daughters of your maternal aunts who emigrated with you, and a believing woman who has offered herself to the Prophet, if the Prophet desires to marry her, exclusively for you, and not for the believers. We know what We have ordained for them regarding their wives and those their right-hands possess. This is to spare you any difficulty. God is Forgiving and Merciful.

Qur'an 33:50 Notes[edit]

Aisha, child bride who married this "Prophet" when she was 9 or 10 years old (and Mohammed was 53 years old at the time), has this to say: "I feel that your Lord hastens in fulfilling your wishes and desires." (source: Sahih al-Bukhari 4788) "Their right-hands possess" is a euphemism for slaves. Yup, sex slavery is legal.

Qur'an 33:51[edit]

You may defer any of them you wish, and receive any of them you wish. Should you desire any of those you had deferred, there is no blame on you. This is more proper, so that they will be comforted, and not be grieved, and be content with what you have given each one of them. God knows what is within your hearts. God is Omniscient and Clement.

Qur'an 33:51 Notes[edit]

She also had this to say regarding a Muslim woman dealing with domestic abuse: "I have not seen any woman suffering as much as the believing women. Look! Her skin is greener than her clothes!" (source: Sahih Al-Bukhari 5825)

Qur'an 33:52[edit]

Beyond that, no other women are permissible for you, nor can you exchange them for other wives, even if you admire their beauty, except those you already have. God is Watchful over all things.

Qur'an 33:52 Notes[edit]

How cute! This guy still pretends like Allah isn't just letting him do whatever he wants!

Qur'an 33:53[edit]

O you who believe! Do not enter the homes of the Prophet, unless you are given permission to come for a meal; and do not wait for its preparation. And when you are invited, go in. And when you have eaten, disperse, without lingering for conversation. This irritates the Prophet, and he shies away from you, but God does not shy away from the truth. And when you ask his wives for something, ask them from behind a screen; that is purer for your hearts and their hearts. You must never offend the Messenger of God, nor must you ever marry his wives after him, for that would be an enormity with God.

Qur'an 33:53 Notes[edit]

Allah declares that you don't pester Prophet. So go away! Also, his wives are off limits after he dies.

Qur'an 33:54[edit]

Whether you declare a thing, or hide it, God is Aware of all things.

Qur'an 33:54 Notes[edit]

Allah isn't even aware that the earth is round.

Qur'an 33:55[edit]

There is no blame on them concerning their fathers, or their sons, or their brothers, or their brothers’ sons, or their sisters’ sons, or their women, or their female servants. But they should remain conscious of God. God is Witness over all things.

Qur'an 33:55 Notes[edit]

Mohammed controlled his wives so strictly, they can't even appear unveiled except with a list chosen by this "messenger" himself. This includes female slaves because Mohammed condoned slavery.

Qur'an 33:56[edit]

God and His angels give blessings to the Prophet. O you who believe, call for blessings on him, and greet him with a prayer of peace.

Qur'an 33:56 Notes[edit]

This message is supposed to be useful for Muslims everywhere at any time.

Qur'an 33:57[edit]

Those who insult God and His Messenger, God has cursed them in this life and in the Hereafter, and has prepared for them a demeaning punishment.

Qur'an 33:57 Notes[edit]

Allah is so sensitive that anybody who hurts his infinite ego deserves to be punished forever!

Qur'an 33:58[edit]

Those who harm believing men and believing women, for acts they did not commit, bear the burden of perjury and a flagrant sin.

Qur'an 33:58 Notes[edit]

Do not bear false witness, all good here?

Qur'an 33:59[edit]

O Prophet! Tell your wives, and your daughters, and the women of the believers, to lengthen their garments. That is more proper, so they will be recognized and not harassed. God is Forgiving and Merciful.

Qur'an 33:59 Notes[edit]

Allah pretends to care about women.

Qur'an 33:60[edit]

If the hypocrites, and those with sickness in their hearts, and the rumormongers in the City, do not desist, We will incite you against them; then they will not be your neighbors there except for a short while.

Qur'an 33:60 Notes[edit]

Allah threatens violence against those who disobey him in a nonviolent manner.

Qur'an 33:61[edit]

They are cursed; wherever they are found, they should be captured and killed outright.

Qur'an 33:61 Notes[edit]

With a villain this evil, who needs Satan? This chapter doesn't need to mention him because Allah is more than evil enough.

Qur'an 33:62[edit]

Such has been God’s precedent with those who passed away before. You will find no change in God’s system.

Qur'an 33:62 Notes[edit]

This is why Allah never abrogates or contradicts himself at all.

Qur'an 33:63[edit]

The people ask you about the Hour. Say, “The knowledge thereof rests with God. But what do you know? Perhaps the hour is near.”

Qur'an 33:63 Notes[edit]

The hour seems far from "near" given how long ago this "revelation" came down.

Qur'an 33:64[edit]

God has cursed the disbelievers, and has prepared for them a Blaze.

Qur'an 33:64 Notes[edit]

We get it! Allah is just pathetic!

Qur'an 33:65[edit]

Dwelling therein forever, not finding a protector or a savior.

Qur'an 33:65 Notes[edit]

This whole tough-guy act doesn't make Allah look any better.

Qur'an 33:66[edit]

The Day when their faces are flipped into the Fire, they will say, “If only we had obeyed God and obeyed the Messenger.”

Qur'an 33:66 Notes[edit]

If only Allah hadn't made this "truth" look like a ridiculous pack of lies!

Qur'an 33:67[edit]

And they will say, “Lord, we have obeyed our superiors and our dignitaries, but they led us away from the way.

Qur'an 33:67 Notes[edit]

Mohammed did more to lead people astray than anybody else. He made the religion of Islam look like a cult.

Qur'an 33:68[edit]

Lord, give them double the punishment, and curse them with a great curse.”

Qur'an 33:68 Notes[edit]

I can imagine way more people wishing for this punishment itself to stop existing.

Qur'an 33:69[edit]

O you who believe! Do not be like those who abused Moses; but God cleared him of what they said. He was distinguished with God.

Qur'an 33:69 Notes[edit]

What historical evidence can people see nowadays to prove that anybody in history comes close to matching the Moses mentioned in this book?

Qur'an 33:70[edit]

O you who believe! Be conscious of God, and speak in a straightforward manner.

Qur'an 33:70 Notes[edit]

Allah doesn't know how to "speak in a straightforward manner" if this book is any indication.

Qur'an 33:71[edit]

He will rectify your conduct for you, and will forgive you your sins. Whoever obeys God and His Messenger has won a great victory.

Qur'an 33:71 Notes[edit]

Empty promises and emptier threats can only go so far.

Qur'an 33:72[edit]

We offered the Trust to the heavens, and the earth, and the mountains; but they refused to bear it, and were apprehensive of it; but the human being accepted it. He was unfair and ignorant.

Qur'an 33:72 Notes[edit]

As it turns out, "the heavens, and the earth, and the mountains" aren't remotely sentient. This specifically references a ridiculous myth that, while being a core of Islam, isn't entirely well-known or ubiquitously held. Allah apparently brought people into existence if they accept a deal where they either worship Allah (and get admitted into Heaven purely by Allah's mercy) or refuse to worship Allah (and send themselves to Hell) right before each person enters this world. Also, part of the deal is that each person loses any memories regarding this deal, but these people totally accepted the deal with Allah. Mankind was apparently "unfair and ignorant" for taking on such a foolish gambit, but according to Allah, this totally happened.

Qur'an 33:73[edit]

God will punish the hypocrites, men and women, and the idolaters, men and women. And God will redeem the believers, men and women. God is Ever-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Qur'an 33:73 Notes[edit]

The first part of this verse is fundamentally at odds with the last part of this verse.
