2025 RationalWiki 'Oregon Plan' Fundraiser

There is no RationalWiki without you. We are a small non-profit with no staff—we are hundreds of volunteers who document pseudoscience and crankery around the world every day. We will never allow ads because we must remain independent. We cannot rely on big donors with corresponding big agendas. We are not the largest website around, but we believe we play an important role in defending truth and objectivity.

Fighting pseudoscience isn't free.

RationalWiki talk:Moderator elections/Archive6

Having been involved in discussions about policies around these elections, I am still miffed that election rules and discussion aren't easily accessible and that critical pages are still extremely difficult to find. It was already appalling that one had to basically obsessively follow Recent Changes to participate in prior discussions and that pages were shuffled around to the point that your average user will be in the dark. I don't have Asperger's. I'm just a dick. Like I've said before, it's not appropriate to assume that editors here always follow Recent Changes or, if they do, will load up 500 edits at a time to peep out what everyone's doing. This stuff should be mentioned on the front page with a persistent notice, not just a intercom notice, on every page. Nutty Roux100x100 anarchy symbol.svg 15:27, 27 June 2013 (UTC)

I second this. Who is eligible to vote and who is eligible to stand. I note that ConservapediaMarkman has decided to stand. I am all for him wanting to be a moderator if that is his wish, but I doubt that he is eligible to vote, and if so, surely he would not be eligible to stand. Looking around, finding the rules on all this is not clear. I don't even know if I am eligible to vote or stand. --DamoHi 00:15, 28 June 2013 (UTC)
I sort of assumed I'm eligible due to the fact that Ghost nominated me, I figured he knew what I was doing. If shown to be ineligible participate in the elections I will of course withdraw without incident. - ConservapediaMarkman (talk) 00:23, 28 June 2013 (UTC)

This requires a response. Nutty Roux100x100 anarchy symbol.svg 13:00, 29 June 2013 (UTC)

There is no eligibility criterion for candidates. Sere discussion here, repeated at various other places in the archives to no effect. AFAIK, voting eligibility is determined by membership of the 'eligible users' user group & the threshold for this is 3 months+ onsite & 75+ edits - the same as for voting in the RW Foundation board elections except that voters in the board elections need to register & AFAIK voters in the mod election don't. ConservapediaMarkman isn't in the eligible users group but I'm not aware of anything to prevent him standing. I could be wrong about any of this; haven't paid much attention to these elections for the last year or so. ωεαşεζøίɗWeaselly.jpgMethinks it is a Weasel 15:38, 29 June 2013 (UTC)
Thanks much Weas. I wish all the rules we fought about for so long were in one place. Nutty Roux100x100 anarchy symbol.svg 15:40, 29 June 2013 (UTC)
