Talk:E number
need to whine[edit]
When people (like the facebook page, people) say "we need to ban e-numbers" -- do they mean on the lable (ie., use real words instead of numbers), or do they really mean **all the things given e number names**. wow, i never knew....GodotNo, That's not the same thing. You just don't get it". 19:10, 18 October 2011 (UTC)
Some really nasty ones that you probably don't want to have in your food: ....?[edit]
Explain to me why I don't want vitamins (They are on the list) to be added to food. I thought that was part of food fortification/engineering? Or should we have a separate section for those? [[User:K61824|]][[User_talk:K61824|]] 18:52, 13 February 2015 (UTC)
- The section title is ironic. Some people think E number-substances are toxic chemicals and they don't want 'em in their food. 141.134.75.236 (talk) 19:27, 13 February 2015 (UTC)
The article is pretty weak, belabouring the one point (that e-numbering covers a wide variety of natural and artificial additives) to the point of strawman. Yes, this is true, but when you look at the most common usage (e.g. by journalists in the Guardian & Daily Mail articles), it's pretty clear that "E number" is being used as shorthand for "artificial colourings & preservatives", not for "everything that could possibly be assigned an E number". The real issue, which this article doesn't really address, should be whether the popular concerns about common artificial colourings & preservatives are actually borne out by science & supported by relevant experts.
