Talk:East Germany
Paraphrasing an argument I came across. The main 'thing' that differentiated East Germany from West Germany was that it had a Communist gloss. Remove the communism, and it had no reason to exist. If the division had been between (Protestant) North Germany and (Catholic) South Germany the division might have been more stable. Comments anyone? 212.85.6.26 (talk) 17:05, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
Economic performance of the GDR[edit]
I'm updating this section with the economic performance of the GDR throughout the years. Is this OK? — Unsigned, by: Cloudsxi / talk / contribs

- That's great, thanks! Remember to include references. Christopher (talk) 13:59, 13 April 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Christopher, all updated. Is this referencing correct? Thank you. --Cloudsxi (talk) 14:15, 13 April 2017 (UTC)
- Whilst you formatted the referencing correctly, we generally try and only use free references that are available online. (This should probably be added to the help page, I'll do that if I don't forget). Christopher (talk) 14:22, 13 April 2017 (UTC)
- And thanks for actually paying attention to the signing thing! Most people just ignore it. Christopher (talk) 14:24, 13 April 2017 (UTC)
- I'm currently looking through Category:Economy of East Germany trying to find citations. Christopher (talk) 14:33, 13 April 2017 (UTC)
- The article on Wikipedia is awfully sourced so that isn't much help. Christopher (talk) 14:38, 13 April 2017 (UTC)

The Wiki page you linked me to does corroborate on the paragraph. Can Wikipedia pages be used in reference? Otherwise, I agree that the page is rather poorly sourced. Cheers --Cloudsxi (talk) 15:46, 13 April 2017 (UTC)
- We do link to Wikipedia (if it's unlikely our readers have heard of the person/thing in question and we don't have a page on it/him/her) but we generally don't use it as a reference if the Wikipedia page in question is awfully sourced. You can of course use the references that Wikipedia have found but that isn't much help because as you've said the article in question awfully sourced. Christopher (talk) 15:55, 13 April 2017 (UTC)
