Guatemala's government lamented this man's passing...[edit]
When this man died, the Guatemalan government actually expressed condolences: https://agn.com.gt/gobierno-del-presidente-morales-lamenta-fallecimiento-del-exjefe-de-estado-efrain-rios-montt/. This is the article that's cited by the Wikipedia article on Efrain Rios Montt.
I wasn't sure if I should include this tidbit in the article, but I think this really demonstrates the state of affairs in Guatemala. Perhaps, it's a formality or tradition for Guatemala's president to mourn the death of an ex-leader. However, the current president, Jimmy Morales, denies the existence of the genocide (like Erdogan in Turkey), which kind of convinces me that his admiration of Montt is genuine.
