OCD and Autism[edit]

It's not the same thing, Autism is a totally different range of disorders. OCD is an anxiety disorder specifically to do with intrusive thoughts that cause and anxiety and compulsion to relieve the anxiety or prevent the feared outcome. Intrusive thoughts can be about order or germs, yes, but also about sexual obsession, harm, religious blasphemy, anything that is ego-dystonic and painful to the subject. Please see the DSM and ICD.

Agreed. That's a horrible redirect. --Green mowse.pngGodotWhy is being ignorant something to be proud of? 17:27, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Doubly agree. Whoever redirected it needs to have a brick throw at them. The Symphony of Noise The official spikey-haired skeptical punk 17:35, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
That would be Weaseloid and Human. Feel free to throw Brxbrx at them. :) --ZooGuard (talk) 17:39, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
I think i was working on an actual article at some point in time. @ZooGuard that made my afternoon :) ТyrannisPlead 17:45, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
I redirected on the basis that it was replacing a very unhelpful redirect to Hell, and that OCD is sometimes considered within the autism spectrum (although this is disputed). Asperger's syndrome also redirects to autism. The article is a bit of a muddle as it seems to cover both autism as a specific condition, and the autism spectrum of disorders/conditions, switching back & forth between both meanings rather unclearly. It would probably be useful to have distinct articles on OCD & asperger's, although I see that nothing links here anymore. €₳$£ΘĪÐWeaselly.jpgMethinks it is a Weasel 17:51, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Serious question to Weaseloid's point. While I know OCD is a very real complex with distinct symptoms, is it not true that both autism and aspergers are sorta "catch all" terms that may or may not really BE a "thing", may or may not be many things, and may or may not even exist at all but be simply a term or "diagnosis" of a way humans have always interacted with the world. I seems to me that there was a time when ADD adn ADHD meant something specific, but now mean any one who doesn't want to focus, but needs a good excuse. I know that sounds harsh, but the reality of "mental diagnosis" as you move from obvious cases to the borderline "might be" or "shows sings of", can really give people reasons to "be" something, instead of just being lazy. --Green mowse.pngGodotWhy is being ignorant something to be proud of? 17:57, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Don't know. The same probably goes for most mental health diagnoses. It's probably something that could be covered in an article on overdiagnosis or disputed diagnosis. WeaseloidWeaselly.jpgMethinks it is a Weasel 19:32, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
