Talk:One-child policy
you think it is worth mentioning the economic issue, namesly the 4:2:1 problem of 4 grandparents retiring for every one grandchild entering the workplace? Zau (talk) 21:16, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
- The final paragraph touches on that theme in brief, but feel free to add more detail. Wěǎšěǐǒǐď

I can't believe that the United Nations have ever supported this policy, it's an absurdity and it goes against human rights of freedom, what to expect from a communist country right? yet I don't see the United Nations taking measures to ensure freedom of speech and other basic human rights in countries like China, this policy has even led to a horrendous infanticide of female babies Lalumierebleue (talk) 03:33, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
- A) The one child policy was a product of the post Mao political atmosphere in China, where orthodox Marxism was abandoned in favor of more pragmatic social policies. Other communist leaders such as those of Eastern Bloc and Mao himself, actually encouraged a growing population. B) Hindsight is 20/20. China does a history of famine, and overpopulation remains a barrier to the growth of living standards which Deng was pursuing at the time. In contrast, just look at India, a similar sized country without such population control measures, and the living standards are much lower among the poor. C) Female infanticide derives from cultural traditions and superstitions which favor male child. It is illegal and mostly occur in rural, less educated communities, and is not a problem unique to China either.--Alpharius (talk) 19:32, 3 September 2016 (UTC)

I might get around to it at some point. DØØM MĖSSIÅH …But spirit is foulest, devoid, askew
