2025 RationalWiki 'Oregon Plan' Fundraiser

There is no RationalWiki without you. We are a small non-profit with no staff—we are hundreds of volunteers who document pseudoscience and crankery around the world every day. We will never allow ads because we must remain independent. We cannot rely on big donors with corresponding big agendas. We are not the largest website around, but we believe we play an important role in defending truth and objectivity.

Fighting pseudoscience isn't free.

Talk:Poisoning the well

I am a Communications Studies major who just found this site. While it will be a while before I know my way around here, I do want to offer a contribution of sorts to this article. Recently I found an amazing post that in my personal opinion can offer no finer example of Poisoning the Well. The article is here and outlines how one political community failed to look at facts only because certain news sources were involved. The interesting point of this situation is that historically the community would have been a strong supporter of the issue, but in fact assumed the issue was unsupportable simply because the news source was supporting that issue.
It should be noted however that this example goes far beyond being a mere rhetorical device and extends itself into an example of rhetoric transitioning into an attitude and thereby influencing the real world on a wide scale. Aguy2014 (talk) 06:16, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
