The World Addiction and Health Institute[edit]

Are IV nutritional therapies a good idea even if administered by a physician? I thought evidence was lacking on these practices.

[Also, despite it being free, I have a particular disdain for alt-med preying on people who've experienced addiction. I think it's because they can be a difficult patient population to work with for actual medical professionals, and that produces a particular vulnerability to quacks who are willing to work with them when they feel disillusioned (often for valid reasons and prior negative experiences) with more mainstream clinicians. Just my opinion on the matter- not especially important to the article, but I thought I'd weigh in as an aside.]

I am curious about IV nutrition outside of the normal treatment for alcohol-related vitamin deficiencies. I was under the impression that the body was pretty good at maintaining a proper electrolyte balance, but I have zero medical background. Am I misinformed about this? → 71.59.251.232 (talk) 16:55, 20 January 2018 (UTC)
