Talk:Steal This Book
Banned Books[edit]
Does Steal This Book have a history of being on banned books lists? I know that here in Canada, for a long time (maybe still, I'm not sure) it was illegal to distribute books containing instructions on the use of controlled substances (how to shoot heroin, make bongs, etc.), although I think it was only really used to keep stuff from crossing the border. I don't think there was a specific list, as such, so much as a general blanket ban on the type of book. Anyone have any insight into how that aspect flew in the US? --Kels 12:18, 18 November 2007 (EST)
- Wasn't it banned in the US? Sounds a bit similar to The Anarchist Cookbook--Bobbing up 12:23, 18 November 2007 (EST)
- uncited, but seems to have been banned until the 80's. --Ζωροάστρης 12:58, 18 November 2007 (EST)
- The Anarchist's Cookbook IIRC, was mostly about how to make bombs and drugs, and apparently was BAD at it--following the instructions could get you blown up or poisoned. Steal This Book (which I've read) was mostly about how to get Free Stuff, often by illegal-but-nonviolent means, like fraud or shoplifting. --Gulik 13:27, 18 November 2007 (EST)
Removal[edit]
I removed these sentences: "The ISBN has been filed down and replaced with the one from Theodore Geisel's The Cat in the Hat. This version outsells Geisel's masterwork by a margin of three to one." I couldn't find anything related to it anywhere, but if someone has a cite they're welcome to put it back in, as it sounds funny. ThunderkatzHo! 03:04, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- It's funny as hell, even if it barely makes sense. I think it should be included for that reason alone. But that part of RW is probably slowly dying... ħuman 05:40, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
