Talk:The 1776 Report
One Issue[edit]
The rebuttal that says:
"Substantial majorities of white Americans during the Civil Rights Era opposed the efforts of reformers such as MLK Jr, especially with regards to educational and residential segregagation.[19] Large amounts of whites of the time similarly believed that civil rights organizations were collaborating with communists, echoing segregationist rhetoric.[20]"
...while this is a true statement, it obscures the fact that there was a strong enough sentiment for change that many of the goals of the Civil Rights Movement were accomplished. This could not have been possible without a broad base of support (including white Americans). Also, it would be helpful to include the percentage of these opposed forces of white people that were living in regions of the country where segregation was prevalent vs. Living in regions where it wasn't. This would provide better context to the claim.
In addition, the amount of rebuttal for a study that was widely reputed seems a bit thin. In fact, it's a surprisingly similar amount when compared to the amount of criticisms made against the historical accuracy of the widely hailed 1619 Project. 2601:CC:0:4A20:38A5:29D9:960E:A380 (talk) 19:40, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
- Right, this racist report was 'widely reputed' but the civil rights movement had 'broad support' among white americans... no contradiction there (sarcasm).FairDinkum (talk) 11:31, 3 October 2022 (UTC)
