2025 RationalWiki 'Oregon Plan' Fundraiser

There is no RationalWiki without you. We are a small non-profit with no staff—we are hundreds of volunteers who document pseudoscience and crankery around the world every day. We will never allow ads because we must remain independent. We cannot rely on big donors with corresponding big agendas. We are not the largest website around, but we believe we play an important role in defending truth and objectivity.

Fighting pseudoscience isn't free.
We are 100% user-supported! Help and donate $5, $10, $20 or whatever you can today with PayPal Logo.png!

Random article lists are semi-static[edit]

This list(s) of random articles on any page transcluding this template (including this page) update each time that page is edited and saved (or null-edited (not-edited but saved)).

The list(s) also update every time that page (including this page) is Previewed during editing. (The last Preview doesn't apply; the list(s) changes again when the page is saved.)

IF the pages are supposed to change each time they are viewed or refreshed, then using "include" instead of [transclude] won't fix it. It would need some deeper change to {randomarticles} to override the normal page caching. (I.e., generate the random articles at service-time, not at save-time.)

Another way might be to re-cache every page with this template at regular intervals, such as 24 hours. (Can skip it for any page that has not been viewed since last re-cache, if any.) (Just letting the cache expire some time after last-use would not work - popular pages would never re-cache. Letting the cache expire some time after creation would work.) -A876 (talk) 22:13, 30 August 2022 (UTC)
