Big business is the term used to describe any multitude of national/international corporations or franchises and their practices, usually in a negative context. With the advent of the twentieth century and the rise of multinational corporate entities as a dominant fixture of the global political/social/economic landscape, so came the rise of individual industries and trades each being dominated by a select and diminishing number of companies. The prefix "big" will often be applied to industries to refer to these shared monopolies that control them.

Big Pharma[edit]

See the main article on this topic: Big Pharma

Big Pharma refers to the pharmaceutical industry, and is commonly used in a conspiratorial sense by proponents of alternative medicines and other food woo when asserting that pharmaceutical companies are doing any number of sinister things. The term also sees some comparably serious use, as there are plenty of legitimate problems with the business practices of for-profit pharmaceutical corporations.

Big Placebo[edit]

Not to be left out, alternative medicine has earned itself the name Big Placebo, as somewhat of a counter to the use of "Big Pharma" on companies that use actual empirical practices to develop medicine.

Big Tobacco[edit]

Perhaps one example where companies 100% lived up to the conspiracies, most major tobacco companies to a significant degree made deliberate public deception a part of their business plans.
