2025 RationalWiki 'Oregon Plan' Fundraiser

There is no RationalWiki without you. We are a small non-profit with no staff—we are hundreds of volunteers who document pseudoscience and crankery around the world every day. We will never allow ads because we must remain independent. We cannot rely on big donors with corresponding big agendas. We are not the largest website around, but we believe we play an important role in defending truth and objectivity.

Fighting pseudoscience isn't free.
We are 100% user-supported! Help and donate $5, $10, $20 or whatever you can today with PayPal Logo.png!

Skeptics in the Pub[edit]

The Skeptics in the Pub (SiTP) is an informal network of groups, founded 1999 by Dr. Scott Campbell in London and later expanded globally by Sid Rodrigues, hosting monthly talks and social events focused on scientific skepticism.[1] The standard format is for an invited speaker to give a talk on a specific topic, which is followed by a question-and-answer session.

In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, a number of the groups came together to form Skeptics in the Pub Online to start hosting live events on Twitch.[2]

Notable SiTP groups[edit]

  • Merseyside Skeptics Society,[3] founded 2009, hosts regular events in Liverpool; publishes podcasts: Skeptics with a K, Be Reasonable, and InKredulous; and co-organises the annual QED conference as part of North West Skeptical Events[4] Since 2020 it has also published The Skeptic magazine.
  • Edinburgh Skeptics Society, founded 2009 by Ash Pryce, hosts regular events in Edinburgh and organises Skeptics on the Fringe, which won Ockham Awards in 2013 and 2017, as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.[5] It has also organised events for the Edinburgh Science Festival.

Good Thinking Society[edit]

The Good Thinking Society is a nonprofit organisation, founded 2012 by Simon Singh, promoting scientific scepticism by raising awareness and funding for sceptical projects.[6] The Society won an Ockham award in 2016.[7]

Students Against Pseudoscience[edit]

Students Against Pseudoscience is a student organisation, founded in 2020 by Luis Fernandes at Cambridge University, combatting the growing threats of pseudoscience, misinformation and anti-intellectualism.[8][9] It organises lectures, panels, screenings and conferences for students and the wider community.

Skeptical publications[edit]

The Skeptic[edit]

The Skeptic, founded 1987 by Wendy M. Grossman, is a non-profit scientific skepticism publication.[10] Since 2020 the publication has been edited by Michael Marshall, with deputy editor Dr. Alice Howarth and a team from the Merseyside Skeptics Society,[11] and supported by the Good Thinking Society. Former editors Deborah Hyde, Chris French and Grossman remain involved as members of the Editorial Advisory Board.

Skeptical conferences[edit]

QED[edit]

QED: Question, Explore, Discover, founded 2011, is a scientific skepticism conference organised annually in Manchester by North West Skeptical Events,[12] a collaboration between the Merseyside Skeptics Society and the Greater Manchester Skeptics Society. The agenda features guest speakers, workshops, documentary screenings, live podcasts, and panel discussions. Many sessions are recorded and later made available for streaming on YouTube. The Saturday night entertainment includes a gala dinner, a variety show, and the cermonial presentation of the Ockham Awards. An annual SkeptiCamp has been held alongside QED since 2014.
