Ads like these three above started appearing on RationalWiki after the introduction of Google banner ads. Google AdSense works by targetting keywords on a page with no discrimination between a favourable or an unfavourable context. RationalWiki investigators decided to follow up the links (the images above are not linked) to check out the amazing Jenna's claims.

Although RationalWiki regards astrology as a pseudoscience, it would appear that Professional Jenna doesn't even use the accepted tools of astrology to draw suckers into coughing up $60 for a reading. In short, it is a straightforward SCAM which has been successfully separating the vulnerable and gullible from their hard-earned savings since at least 2006.

However, her psychic powers do not stop with Astrology; they extend to Crystalline Reiki Grids, Guardian Angels, past-life regression (without hypnosis), Shamanism and totem animals. Basically, all the New Age woo buzz-words you can imagine.

The sign-up form for a free reading is fairly simple; it asks for your first name, email, date of birth, sex, marital status and employment.

• Name - Important because it is used repeatedly in correspondence to give the impression of a personal message
• E-mail - Needed for communication
• DOB - Well, it is an astrology site so better make some semblance of following the protocol
• Sex - Probably used to tailor the messages based on gender stereotypes
• Marital status - Also used to tailor the messages to your situation

Note that three items of personal information (sex, marital status, and work status) are needed for an "accurate Reading". This is information that is immaterial to the practice of astrology but vital to psychological deception. Date of birth however, generally considered one of the most important parts of astrology, is unnecessary. In fact, entering an invalid date such as April 31 doesn't trigger any errors and you still get a reading!

Because Jenna promotes "her" ads through Google AdSense, there have been many people who actually coughed up the money and either received nothing or were duped by her. A discussion thread on Preventive Measures for Google Adsense Ban shows how many desperate people have been scammed, and perhaps more poignantly how some people have actually been satisfied with their fake reading.

Web pages are linked from the emails and generated on the fly using php. Three parameters are normally passed to the template: r, c & f.
