I wanted to make an list of ethnic groups with their own countries in Europe and Asia based on country, inspired by pages on ethnic groups on the wikis (Roma, Arabs, White people, Black people) since making a page for every single one of these groups would be unnecessary. The purpose of this list is to educate those who view countries and nations through stereotypical lens and show them the diversity of ethnic groups around the world. Some are not ethnic groups per se (such as Bruneian, Belgian, American, whatnot), it does not include racial groups as race is a poorly defined construct unlike ethnicity.
Europe[edit]
Europe is among the most diverse continents just behind Asia, with at least 40 ethnic groups having their own nation.
Albanians[edit]
Albanians are descended from the prehistoric indigenous population who were absorbed and replaced by Indo-Europeans (later becoming known as Paleo-Balkan peoples), possibly sharing a common ancestry with Greeks and Armenians. Albania is one of the few non Slavic peoples and nations in its area, maintaining a cultural distinction. Despite being an Islamic nation, it is part of the western world and the European cultural fabric, and many pagan and ancient practices still survive in the country to this day.
Austrians[edit]
Austrians are a unique example of an ethnic group. Though they do not differ significantly from Germans as they speak the same language and share similar genetics (though there is significant Slavic ancestry and influence among Austrians), they are culturally and historically distinct from Germans and form a separate ethnic group. For centuries, many Austrians saw themselves as Germans, and many even supported unity with Germany. This was achieved with Nazi Germany’s annexation of Austria into the Third Reich (the Anschluss), though after the defeat and collapse of the Nazi regime, many Austrians began to identify separately from Germans despite being a significant collaborator in the holocaust, right after Germany. Since 1945, many Austrians now see themselves as a distinct peoples and no longer see themselves as Germans, nor do they desire unification with Germany.
Belarusians[edit]
Belarusians are an East Slavic ethnic group, closely related to Russians and Ukrainians. Like their more famous cousins, their ethnogenesis likely occurred after the division of the Kievan Rus in the 1200s, settling in the northern part of Eastern Europe. Like many other Slavic and Eastern European countries, Belarus was subject to colonialism from Russia for much of its history. Later on Russia was replaced by Germany as the invading neighbor, then Russia again for quite a time, until Russia finally left and Belarus became independent. Today, Belarus is nominally independent but obviously a puppet state of Russia, likely even a territory at this point given the Kremlin’s influence in the country.
Bosnians[edit]
Bosnians are South Slavs, descended from Slavic migrants that entered what would become Bosnia in Yugoslavia and assimilated the previous Illyrian population. Bosnians were originally Christian but later converted to Islam under the rule of the Ottoman Empire. Unfortunately, this has put them at odds with their Christian neighbors the Serbs and Croats, leading to ethnic tensions between all three groups that began in the 1200s and continues to this day.
British[edit]
Bulgarians[edit]
Bulgarians are a South Slavic ethnic group, descended mostly from the ancient Slavic tribes that inhabited the land with limited mixture from the Turkish Bulgars (the namesake of the country), a Turkic peoples who arrived from Asia and became the political elite in the nation. They were originally Tengrist, then later converted to Christianity and the populace soon followed in the conversion. The rule of the Bulgars came to an end when the dominant Slavic population overthrew their Turkic rulers and assimilated them. Thus, at least some Bulgarians have a small amount of Turkic ancestry from the Bulgars in their genetic profile. Unfortunately, anti-Turkic sentiment in Bulgaria began to appear and gradually evolve into high octane fascistic bigotry in the modern age (due to historical oppression from the Turkish Ottoman Empire, who did legitimately oppress the Bulgarian peoples, as they were unwilling subjects for centuries). Because of the past horrors caused by Ottoman rulers, racism against Turks is a significant feature in Bulgarian culture despite Bulgaria’s Turkic roots. The bigotry is so bad it even goes as far as associating the Bulgars with the Ottomans and other Turkic Muslims, despite the Bulgars not even being Muslim and disappearing centuries before the Ottomans existed. Many Bulgarians engage in historical revisionism, with some even claiming the Bulgars were Iranians or Slavs themselves (implying they were always Slavic and somehow pure, neither of which is true).
Croats[edit]
Czechs[edit]
Danes[edit]
Dutch[edit]
Estonians[edit]
Estonians are one of 4 non Indo-European ethnic groups with their own countries in Europe. Estonians are an offshoot of Finns, known as Baltic Finns. It is believed their ethnogensis began from Finns who migrated from Sweden and settled in the Baltic region in ancient times during the spread of Uralic peoples in Europe. Since then, Estonians have previously been under the rule of its larger neighbors such as Russia, until achieving independence during the 1990s.
Finns[edit]
Finns are one of 4 non Indo-European peoples in Europe to have their own country. Finns (along with Hungarians) are known as Uralic peoples, an ethnolinguistic group that originated in east Asia (alongside Turkics and Mongolics) and gradually. No ivc Ik Sh migrated across Asia into Europe via the Ural Mountains. Finns are descended from a branch of Uralics that migrated into the Scandinavian peninsula and absorbed the previous indigenous peoples there (who were also non Indo-European), giving rise to the Sami. The ancestors of Finns continued to move across the peninsula and encountered Indo-Europeans such as Germanics, assimilating with them in most places. When the Germanics became dominant, Finland was the only stronghold for Uralic peoples in North Europe and thus Finland and Finnish people were born.
French[edit]
Germans[edit]
Greeks[edit]
Greeks are one of two European peoples and nations who formed civilizations and empires prior to other European peoples doing so (the other being Rome/Italy). Greeks are indigenous to the Greek peninsula, a mixture of Indo-European migrants and previously indigenous Bronze Age inhabitants such as the Minoans). Greeks were among the earliest Indo-European civilizations in Europe, with Rome coming after Greece.
Hungarians[edit]
Icelanders[edit]
Irish[edit]
Italians[edit]
Latvians[edit]
Lithuanians[edit]
Macedonians[edit]
Maltans[edit]
Maltans are a Semitic peoples descended from Arab settlers who arrived to the island of Malta near France and Italy. These settlers mixed with incoming Europeans such as Italians (via the Romans) and Normans, and this mixture is reflected in their genetics, culture, and language. Maltese are the only Semitic group indigenous to Europe and with their own nation.

Africa[edit]
Despite the immense amount of ethnic diversity, Africa has very few nations named after dominant ethnic groups, mostly due to colonial powers from Europe and Arabia deciding the names for the indigenous with little regards for ethnic borders.
Egyptians[edit]
Egyptians (or Kemetians in native Egyptian) are the native peoples of the nation. Egyptians are a multicultural people as Egypt was a hub for travel between Europe, Africa, and Asia. Thus Egyptians were neither black nor white, though Egyptians with such skin colors did exist. However, the dominant population had brown skin as this is a common feature seen in ancient Egyptian art. Egyptians are an Afro-Asiatic people, related to Semitic peoples such as the Arabs who later came to dominate them. Egypt was formerly a Christian stronghold until Muslim conquests brought Islam. And with Islam came Arabization. However, Egypt’s case is unique as despite Arab identity being common and significant mixing with other ethnic groups being present in their genetics, they still have genetic continuity with their ancient Egyptian predecessors and are thus still the same indigenous peoples. Egyptian identity is incredibly strong, and there has been significant attempts to revive pre Arab and pre Islamic Egyptian identity with movement such as Kemetism and Pharaonism, however these movements have yet to be seen if they can succeed.
Somalis[edit]
Somalis are a Cushitic ethnic group (a member of the Afro-Asiatic family, distantly related to Semites such as Arabs and Jews). They are the indigenous peoples of Somalia, and though they have mostly been Arabized and Islamized, they continue to cling onto their unique ethnic and cultural identity.
