both work. The word "low" should aligned over the bar like "high" is. Remember we'll need a lot of these for the CP Day Awards voting, unless some people are only being considered for one or two awards. Like if there are ten awards and ten candidates, that's 100 potential sliders... if we had an award list that could be pulled in like at AotW, it would then only be ten "entries", one for each candidate. It also won't let me edit it wtf? I made some awesome and it all went away... ħuman 21:12, 17 September 2008 (EDT)
- When doing AOTW I tried to get the left to align properly but never could "align=left" worked in IE but not fire fox I think. Never could get it all working. It is all table code like usual if you want to have a go at formatting. As to your other point the work still has to be "done" one way or another whether in lists or separate sliders. By doing one slider a go this allows for infinite flexibility I think it is better than trying to pull something from templates. tmtoulouse oppress 21:12, 17 September 2008 (EDT)
- Won't let you edit what? (EC). tmtoulouse oppress 21:12, 17 September 2008 (EDT)
- Round off consensus to .01s - I see your point about "ultimate flexibility", and of course copy paste would work to build a big voting booth for the awards. Can you slap a border=1 tag on the table oh never mind I'll look at source... ħuman 21:15, 17 September 2008 (EDT)
<tr><td align="right">Low</td><td align="right">High</td><td><center>Your vote</center></td><td><center>Consensus<br></center></td></tr><tr>
OK, I see. The "low" is at the right end of the first cell.
How about two cells for the slider bar itself, colspan=2 for the slider, and
<tr><td></td><td align="left">Low</td><td align="right">High</td><td><center>Your vote</center></td><td><center>Consensus<br></center></td></tr><tr>
for the first row? Make sense? ħuman 21:18, 17 September 2008 (EDT)
- Now, here's the big challenge (and this would really help the AotW I think): make every vote/change on these things turn up in recent changes... at least at AotW... ħuman 21:19, 17 September 2008 (EDT)
- Recent changes is a monstrosity of garbled encoded bullshit. I tried working with it during the whole "vandal brake" epic, someday I may sit down and devote a weak to learning it but that is not happening anytime soon. I will look at the table code you gave. What do you mean you can't edit it though? tmtoulouse oppress 21:22, 17 September 2008 (EDT)
- When I click "preview" it returns to its unedited state. ħuman 21:26, 17 September 2008 (EDT)
- When I tried to paste one in here it broked too. ħuman 21:27, 17 September 2008 (EDT)
- Table trick worked in FF. Now round off the consensus? ħuman 21:28, 17 September 2008 (EDT)
- Done. I am still unclear on whats breaking. Are you adding formatting and that is causing it to die? tmtoulouse oppress 21:30, 17 September 2008 (EDT)

- Wow, that extension really fucks with editing. I tried to add one in a new section, on second preview I wound up editing here... I renamed the bar, seemed ok at preview. then I changed Low and High to 12 and Green and POOF! The beans fell out of my nose. ħuman 21:31, 17 September 2008 (EDT)

noobed[edit]
I was able to save the above slider. Can't edit it now. (it fails at "save") ħuman 21:40, 17 September 2008 (EDT)
- What are you trying to do? It is editable by me. tmtoulouse oppress 21:42, 17 September 2008 (EDT)
- that's weird, I tried to change this one to "red" and "shallow", hit save, got the 13/High you just saved on the test page! ħuman 21:44, 17 September 2008 (EDT)
- Cause I just changed it here. tmtoulouse oppress 21:44, 17 September 2008 (EDT)
- I just tried to add some text and nothing more, hit "save", got an unchanged edit box. You know, we should work on separate ones in case we are ECing? ħuman 21:45, 17 September 2008 (EDT)
- By the way, can the "name" and "displayed name" be separate options? ħuman 21:47, 17 September 2008 (EDT)
- I suppose so, why? I won't edit the one on here anymore if you want to try and see whats going on. tmtoulouse oppress 21:52, 17 September 2008 (EDT)
- Say for the CP Awards - what if several idiots are in the running for the same award, the datasets need different names, but we might want the same text "shown". ħuman 22:30, 17 September 2008 (EDT)
- Meh, good point. Also I just realized that I am using the "title" for part of the variable names and so it can't have spaces. So ok. tmtoulouse oppress 22:31, 17 September 2008 (EDT)

v 2.1 comments[edit]
Seems to be working fine - the box gets changed by the slider, the vote buttons work, etc. Loading speed is now lightning fast.
One thing I just realized AotW doesn't do either, that would be cool, is if one clicks part way along a slider bar, the pointer should go to the nearest point to where it was clicked - right now it jumps back and forth between 0 and ten (I thought AotW worked the way I suggest you make it, but I just checked and was wrong).
Another issue that we kind of ignored at aotw is the width of the whole thing - the bars them selves are what, 700px wide? Meaning the whole things eats up close to 1000px? The bars could be half as wide and still work fine - I think. Then the "text" box could be a bit wider...
I'll tamper with it a bit more, and if anything else occurs to me I'll report on it. ħuman 19:55, 19 September 2008 (EDT)
- I have adjusted width, the clicking thing is a bigger problem than one might think. For now I have adjusted it so that it doesn't jump between 1 and 10 but rather adjusted up 1 or down 1 depending on if you are in front or behind the marker. tmtoulouse oppress 23:37, 19 September 2008 (EDT)
- 1., yeah, I think that's better. 2. Works enough that I wouldn't "complain" - it makes sense, ie, intuitive, I think. Shit, I was gonna call you and say Happy Birthday in person, but it's too late!!!! Oh - what time zone are you in again? ħuman 00:11, 20 September 2008 (EDT)
- On 2. - the word "complain" was not clear enough. The way it is now, I'd say "cool". If you click somewhere and hold, it goes there in a fraction of a second. Nice work. ħuman 00:16, 20 September 2008 (EDT)

Sig[edit]
I fixed the bot so it should no longer try to unsig your comments. Btw I'm going to add an opt-out feature too, just didn't have time to figure out how categories work in pwb. -- Nx / talk 00:40, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
- Eh it needed to be changed back to standard anyway. It was part of my need to be contrarian, when everyone had simple sigs I started using the random feature, when everyone used that and had fancy colors I opted for the least informative and useful sig possible.
