2025 RationalWiki 'Oregon Plan' Fundraiser

There is no RationalWiki without you. We are a small non-profit with no staff—we are hundreds of volunteers who document pseudoscience and crankery around the world every day. We will never allow ads because we must remain independent. We cannot rely on big donors with corresponding big agendas. We are not the largest website around, but we believe we play an important role in defending truth and objectivity.

Fighting pseudoscience isn't free.

What's the difference between this and "woo-meisters"?--Krejtalk 17:58, 11 March 2013 (UTC)

Damned good question. I figured a Shyster was to Law what a Quack was to Medicine, but that was before I learned the term "woo". --TheLateGatsby (talk) 18:18, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
So the difference is...?--Krejtalk 18:20, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
The descriptions would suggest that woo-meisters make money with woo-related things, while shysters are just crooks/criminals. However, Erich von Daniken is in this category, and I'm pretty sure his works qualify as woo.--Krejtalk 00:29, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
Fabrication of artifacts and financial fraud on top of the woo-peddling definitely puts von Daniken in this category. Nebuchadnezzar (talk) 00:35, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
