The central plaza of MBI

The Moody Bible Institute (MBI) is a college whose main campus is in Illinois. They are evangelical Calvinists and are Biblical literalists. [1] They are very homophobic as is usual in Fundie schools.[2] Accreditation is through the Association of Biblical Higher Education, Association of Theological Schools, Higher Learning Commission and the National Association of Schools of Music. MBI is also affiliated with the organization Association of Christian Schools International.[3]

Academics[edit]

MBI has degrees in Christian ministry, Elementary Education, Communications, Intercultural Studies, Applied Linguistics, Jewish Studies, Music, Theology among others.[4]

Sexual Abuse[edit]

Like many other Fundie schools, Moody Bible Institute has a history of sexual abuse. Several students, whose names will be withheld for privacy, went to MBI and faced sexual abuse from male students. Former students describe that campus culture as patriarchy and oppressive towards women. Women are often blamed for the sexual abuse that happens to them. [5] Stalking, harassment and sexual violence are common. MBI often refuses to investigate sexual abuse. After a petition in 2021 was signed by survivors of sexual abuse at Moody, former Vice President Tim Arnes resigned in disgrace. Despite this turn of events, nothing has changed at MBI.[6]
