Draft:The Capitalist Manifesto
The Capitalist Manifesto is a book by Louis Kelso and Mortimer Adler published in 1956. It can be read as pdf
In lay language, the authors argue that we do not have a capitalist system because everyone is not a capitalist. That is, not having a second income, in addition to earnings from labour, from owning income earning assets.
As things are we have an employment society where the majority relies for an income on pleasing someone else. Instead of capitalism, we have an employment society based on mutual exploitation.
Other economists and professional have published on this theme before and after Kelso, notably C. H. Douglas before, and James S Albus Peoples Capitalism after Kelso. An easy search will produce a number of more recent works, not to mention the live interest in Universal Basic Income (UBI) which means that everyone alive is a shareholder in the UK economy. Every individual citizen is collaborating in the enterprise of producing the social entity called British Society.
However, a robust denialism seems to be evident in the camps of orthodox economism.
This draft was called a puff piece, and is said to be far from being even a poor stub:
The draft has zero sources, poor formatting, barely engages with or describes the subject at all and reads mostly like a puff piece; if it was sent to mainspace even as a stub (which is in itself poor form) it would almost certainly be AfD'd for these issues. To have any hope for the article at all you would need to improve it considerably before it gets sent to mainspace. Plutocow (talk) 18:51, 28 March 2025 (UTC)
