I don't quite see how this is misisonal[edit]
Self-explanatory. TheOneAndOnlyCirrusMan (talk) 01:56, 14 October 2024 (UTC)
- It... sort of is... but I'm not sure of its notability. Essentially, it's a bit of gaming Internet drama where a fundie Texan Christian developer's political donations got revealed. Game players in the community who tend to be, er, targeted by the fundie Christian community and Trumpism (such as LGBTQ) got upset, as one can understand. Developer "retires" as a result (at least, he fades from the visible spotlight of his games). End of story, pretty much.
- So, it's a tossup for me. It's just low-importance "Internet drama" on the one hand. On the other, it does indeed touch on fundamentalism. Complicating this is that this does not at first appear to be a Notch situation, where you are dealing with an obvious whack-ass. Reports on Reddit at least seem to indicate that Cawthon was a pretty decent person and not outwardly a bigot. This makes his donations to Trumpism right-wingers (including Donald Trump) as well as grifters like Tulsi Gabbard a bit puzzling (unless, one concludes, that Cawthon's public face was a facade).
- Regardless of what Cawthon's true opinion is, such is a demonstration that for many people (not without reason), "Christianity", via its ties to Trumpism, is now automatically associated with the politics of hate. Blame the Religious Right leadership for that. BobJohnson (talk) 12:37, 14 October 2024 (UTC)
