Essay:Fascism across the world
Something that’s really interested me about politics is observing the rise of right wing populism and seeing how they evolve (or rather devolve) into fascism. For me, categorizing these people is like collecting Pokémon (there’s a lot to find and learn about more in depth). One example is how Vladimir Putin went from a left leaning person to a rightist politician to eventually becoming an unholy hybrid of fascism and red fascism. Another common example is Donald Trump. Trump is an example of how the worst possible person imaginable was able to gain power. Nobody thought he would win, yet by exploiting nativism and creating fear revolving immigrants using xenophobia makes an interesting case study for how fascists like trump gain power in a democratic system by using undemocratic means.
Topics like this interest me in geopolitics because it shows dictatorships still live today despite that we fought dictatorships in the past. Despite this, liberty will always succeed no matter how bad it gets.
