Essay talk:New World Order/Avenger
Democracies only, eh?[edit]
Who decides what is a Democracy, what kinds get in? China votes for people, cuba votes for people, even North Korea has elections of some form. Fascism advocates for a democracy of a kind, even have a fancy name for it. The Nazis discussed a vague idea of a german democracy. Oh, then we have places like Singapore - on the face Democracies but in truth dictatorships with token democratic elements, and yet it is indeed a democracy.
And then we have to get to the point that your organization, by only allowing in some vague concept of "Democracies only" will be worthless at doing anything, because world politics involve more than just the people we like, and isolating world powers we dislike will not improve the world. --"Paravant" Talk & Contribs 01:39, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
- And what about illiberal democracies with powerful democratic patrons, such as America? A dictatorship that has shame elections and the US backing them will get in because the US wants it in, and if the rest disagree, then the US can make this organization as powerless and worthless as the League of Nations was without American backing. --"Paravant" Talk & Contribs 01:42, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
- That's what I put the four fifths clause in for. If four fifths of the freely elected delegates of all democracies in the world agree a place is a democracy, it probably is. What I did forget however, is a way to throw out stuff like Viktor Orban Avengerofthe BoN (talk) 01:44, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
- And if America wants them in as a democracy, it will get in, or the organization will become worthless - the LoN consisted of all the major powers of the world except for one, and it was the lack of that one that made it toothless, why would they risk it again? --"Paravant" Talk & Contribs 01:49, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
- And then you've neglected to address the major point that the world is not just democracies, and repalcing the UN with an organization that excludes China, Russia and the other nations we don't like will be as worthless at accomplishing world good as one that loses the support of America. --"Paravant" Talk & Contribs 01:50, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
