Essay talk:Reasoning for religious conservatives
Fun Namespace?[edit]
I was trying to make it in the fun namespace if it seems appropriate. However I am not sufficiently adept in doing it. Thieh 18:04, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
- I'll move it for you. ħuman 00:14, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
Maybe someone can help a bit?[edit]
One thing I have noticed is that the footnotes are start to get long. Thieh 18:00, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
- No problem with that, really. More is better probably. I think if you use "reflist2" instead of "references" it shrink the typeface and makes two columns, though. ħuman 18:50, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
- Maybe you would actually like this to be in the "essay" space? You can move it, or ask me to, if you're not sure how to do it. ħuman 07:17, 1 May 2009 (UTC)
- Done, I think. Thieh 04:07, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, you did it. Although, it is getting fairly funny, last I checked. Do you mind if some of us copyedit it a bit sometimes? ħuman 05:34, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
- I encourage people to add items to it and edit it actually. That's why I initially want to put it under Fun namespace. Meanwhile maybe renaming the title to correspond to some other serious articles may help too. I don't have a good name for it at the moment. Thieh 22:28, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Idea[edit]
This might be funny, and improve the readability too. Instead of <insert name of deity>, use a randomized template to pick one, and don't use the "null parameter" trick. That way on any given loading, they'll all be the same deity name. Ditto for holy books or any other things treated that way in the article. ħuman 00:40, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
- Is there a way to do pronouns/Corresponding scriptures properly? I am trying to keep the correlations to within only each paragraph. Thieh 01:41, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
- Try what you want to do in sandboxes? ħuman 03:51, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
- Ok, I pinpointed the problem. I have trouble generating random parameters properly (I have the phrases; I am trying to generate a religion as passable parameter, which if I use the same method as the phrases(templates), that does not get properly passed as parameters). Any suggestions? Thieh 04:03, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

{{Template:{{abrahamicgods}}}} is "bad code", I think all you need is {{abrahamicgods}}. I'll go look in a bit at Template:abrahamicgods to see what you are trying to do. Also, why limit it to Abrahamic religions? ħuman 04:11, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
- I am trying to create a parameter to pass through (such that the scripture and pronoun will match the name). I'll try to finish Abrahamic religions because the pronouns of those religions are all "He" (maybe sub a broader template once I know how to work all that)pseudocode:
- Generate x, enum or int randomly from 0 to maxreligion-1
- listofnames = namelist(x);
- Generate y, enum or int randomly from 0 to length(listofnames);
- Name of deity = listofnames(y);
- Scripture name = scripturelist(x);
- Deity pronoun = pronounlist(x);
- 3 and 4 is the choose template, the easiest part.
- the rest of them perhaps has simpler solutions. Thieh 04:24, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
I see what you are doing, and it ought to work.
First, have a template like "name of religion" that randomly picks the creed. Then use it in the other templates, like {{name of god|{{name of religion}}}} and any other things you want to specify (he/she/it for "deity gender", capped or not?) Then you could have {{name of sacrament|{{name of religion}}}}, {{name of enemy god|{{name of religion}}}}, etc., and since the "name of religion" template will return the same parameter each time, it should all work. If you want a different religion in each paragraph, use {{name of religion|1}}, {{name of religion|2}}, etc. If you need more help or a better explanation, post here, I'm watching. ħuman 04:30, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
- Example of this I found not working:
Actual code:
{{Abrahamicreligions}} {{Abrahamicgods|{{Abrahamicreligions}}}} {{Abrahamicgods|Christian}} Output:
Christian
Expected output: 3 lines, the middle item being randoming from all lists, based on the religion on the first item. the bottom is a control to ensure the {{Abrahamicgods}} template has no other problems.Thieh 04:40, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
- OK, we might need more brains help here. That second line "should" work to pull up "Allah". Again, I would advise working in sandboxes - subpages of your user page - to get this to work, rather than making a bunch of template-space pages to experiment. Get it to work with foo and bar, then bring it on-line? ħuman 04:52, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
- The names (Template:Allah,Template:YHWH,Template:Jesus) are kept (They function properly as far as I can tell), the Abrahamicgods and Abrahamicreligions can be deleted. Experiments are setup @ User:k61824/sandbox4,User:k61824/sandbox3 is the enum template and User:k61824/sandbox5 is the switch case template. Thieh 05:17, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for the links. I think I need to sleep on this, and let the dreams do their magic work - and also, we might need to get help from some smarter techies. What you are doing "should" work, we just don't know why it doesn't. PS, what's your "first" language, if you don't mind me asking? ħuman 06:00, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

I think I have fixed the random template. Question: One religion per page, per section or per point(bullet point or paragraph)? Thieh 17:25, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
- Really? That's great. Good question. How about starting with one per page (no dummy or # parameters) and see how it reads? One per section or paragraph might be best, though. ħuman 01:00, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
Randomizing the name/Pronouns/scriptures done[edit]
List of names are done in global templates; subpages are created to accomodate perceived difference in ordering (other people may order the religion differently than I do); all names/pronouns are substituted (the ones not substituted has a label in front of it indicating the name/type of religion) except the phrase <Insert scripture interpretations> at the footnotes. It would be just the name which has been changed (perhaps to <Insert interpretations of the Bible>); I don't think we completed all the scripture templates to substitute that (or which verse is more frequently ripped to be interpreted).
At this point I need a subpage for random number for each section to keep the words at each section stick to the same religion. Let me know if better programming practices are available. Thieh 13:59, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
Reverting back to Christianity only[edit]
Since a lot of stuff I end up referring to CP/the Bible, I am reverting the random religion template. [[User:K61824|]][[User_talk:K61824|]] 14:59, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
