2025 RationalWiki 'Oregon Plan' Fundraiser

There is no RationalWiki without you. We are a small non-profit with no staff—we are hundreds of volunteers who document pseudoscience and crankery around the world every day. We will never allow ads because we must remain independent. We cannot rely on big donors with corresponding big agendas. We are not the largest website around, but we believe we play an important role in defending truth and objectivity.

Fighting pseudoscience isn't free.
We are 100% user-supported! Help and donate $5, $10, $20 or whatever you can today with PayPal Logo.png!

May or may not be Reagan
Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!
French Soldier, Monty Python and the Holy Grail

Hamsters are inoffensive (well, mostly harmless) rodents. They usually come out at night which makes their popularity as pets a little surprising.

They are omnivores and have the cute ability to store food in their cheeks before taking back to their burrows.

In captivity they are often provided with exercise wheels in their cages which they will spin with great energy. Sadly, efforts to connect their wheels to little generators and thus power houses have had little success[1]. Other solutions to global warming must therefore be found.

Hamsters are not gerbils.
