The benefits of crystals[edit]

  • They are decorative, and if correctly placed in relation to windows may reflect pretty colours on walls.
  • You can have fun acquiring/collecting them and creating a cabinet of curiosities/gemstone collection.
  • If you enjoy looking at them you will be in a good mood and have the benefits thereof.

Any more? Anna Livia (talk) 11:22, 25 May 2019 (UTC)

The windows option would apply particularly to prismatic forms - and also dichroic glass and craftwork crystals (mostly plastic), mica etc. Anna Livia (talk) 18:06, 11 June 2019 (UTC)

Not Crystal Woo[edit]

Is the Crystal Mark [1]. Anna Livia (talk) 23:05, 29 February 2020 (UTC)

Kind of a funny thought[edit]

Something I think is kind of curious is how much media uses crystals as magical MacGuffins. The big ones that come to mind are lots of JRPGs, Final Fantasy specifically being loaded with magical crystals. Lots of fantasy stories, but some sci-fi too! I'm kind of curious if this predates crystal woo, or was inspired it. Monochroma (talk) 07:04, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

Sunstones[edit]

The apparent/actual Medieval navigation 'tool': how 'woo' is this usage? Anna Livia (talk) 12:34, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

I wouldn't call this woo, but it's definitely interesting! I don't know enough about optics or crystals, but I think birefringence could actually theoretically be used for navigation. In either case, it would probably fit better on the main Crystals page. They already mention a cheeky thing about Iceland spar. Monochroma (talk) 03:43, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
Whichever is appropriate - and a mention here as 'category of topics which sound woo-like but which are not.' Anna Livia (talk) 10:22, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

Quartz Oscillators[edit]

I noticed that the last paragraph of "how they work, apparently" might be innacurate. It states (or at least implies) that quartz watches do not utilize the voltage returned by vibrations at all. From what I remember, quartz watches use the tiny feedback of voltage from the vibration in order to detect a vibration, which tells them to feed power back into the crystal and increment the time. Should this section be changed?
