Can somebody please find & cite the blogs that Errol Denton is petitioning against? Without checking them directly, we can't verify whether his accusations of racism are reliable or not. WëäŝëïöïďWeaselly.jpgMethinks it is a Weasel 15:20, 27 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi Weaseloid - I think there are at least two aspects to consider - my / our content and my / our pattern of behaviour. I'm pretty certain that there's no content on my blog that could be construed as racist by anyone (even Mr Denton). He complains that Josephine and I have sustained a two year racially motivated campaign against him in which he has been singled out for criticism. Having had a look at my blog and the record of complaints I've made to the Advertising Standards Authority I can see that I've not paid any attention to the ethnicity of the people or organisations (!) that I've complained about. So on both those counts his allegations lack evidence. I've made numerous complaints about an entirely different organisation and had absolutely no success in having misleading information about homeopathy removed from their page, so it doesn't always work, and it certainly hasn't with Mr Denton's pages. I think in total I've probably put in about 20-25 complaints about 15-20 people / organisations, many have resulted in an adjudication and a website tweak JoBrodie (talk) 22:11, 7 January 2013 (UTC)
Thanks Jo. I've added a couple of the blog links from below to the article; one of yours and one of Josephine Jones's, covering both of your reactions to Errol's smear campaign against you. Please feel free to edit the article if you think any other blog posts should be linked, or if you can provide some further info on Denton's activities, with appropriate citations. Personally I think this article is currently too heavy on details re web domains & petitions & too light on info about his status as a pseudoscience promoter/practitioner (i.e. the reason why we have an article about him at all), so if you can help improve it, please do. €₳$£ΘĪÐWeaselly.jpgMethinks it is a Weasel 23:15, 7 January 2013 (UTC)

  • Weseloid, thepetition.co.uk is Denton's own site, there are no other active petitions. The other petitions listed were copied from other sites and have only a handful of signatures (though some skeptics did have a bit of fun with them). One of them was created a year after the thing it was purportedly petitioning for, had happened. He set it up when Care2 pulled his petition for, I think, the third time. He set it up on Heart Internet, where it was pulled for ToS violation, so he set it up again on a new host. I can't count the sigs on other petitions as of today terribly easily as he knows my current IP address and has blocked it, as he has several other skeptics I know, including the targets of his bogus petition. Do you have anything to verify all this other than bare assertion? WēāŝēīōīďWeaselly.jpgMethinks it is a Weasel 21:45, 27 December 2012 (UTC)
Mate, I was there. I saw him posting links to the Care2 petition, I was one of the people who reported it as a ToS violation to Care2, I saw it removed, I saw it put back and then removed again, I saw it go from Care2, I saw him start posting links to the new petition, I signed the new petition with a comedy name and am now permanently blocked from the site, as are others including Josephine Jones and Ron. Now actually have a look at the petitions (I can do this using 3G):
  • "Nationalise the energy section in Scotland after independence", mis-typed copy of activism.com petition, originally had two signatures, now up to a heady 13.
  • "Give funds for Microarray testing in Wales", copied from GoPetiution. Amusingly that seems to have sucked n the potential signatories from the real petition, which is probably due to its having started only on November 15.
  • "Return VAT on air ambulance fuel payments" copied from epetitions.direct.gov.uk, 154,067 signatures there and 4 on thepetition.co.uk
  • "Save the UK Film Council", 2 signatures, copied from GoPetition again, originally registered in July 2010. The UK Film Council closed on 31 March 2011, over 18 months before thepetition.co.uk was registered. Likely? Nope.
  • "unreasonable increases in utility prices", 3 signatures, copied from GoPetition again, a reacti to the 2008 increases in utility prices. We don't even have the same government any more.
  • "Campaign to Demand Justice Against RACIST Bloggers Jo Brodie And Josephine Jones", 973 signatures, the only one that does not exist on any other petition sites, the only one that was not registered on those sites before thepetition.co.uk was registered, the only one that's being actively promoted. Third hit on a google search is a shorttask to get people to come and sign. Now closed down, of course.
  • "Stop betting shops taking over our high streets", 4 signatures, copied from GoPetition where it has 262 signatures since registration in January 2011.
  • "Support pensions for pre-1975 veterans", 3 signatures, copied from GoPetition where it has 80 signatures.
  • "Protection of the Cliffe historic and archaeological landscape", 2 signatures, copied from Activism.com
  • "Save our Welsh cats and dogs from death on the roads", 3 signatures, copied from GoPetition where it has 412 signatures.
  • "Upgrade the UK party political system to a Modular Democracy", 2 signatures, copied from GoPetition - where it is similarly unpersuasuve!
  • "We are against Westminster City Council's new parking regulations", 2 signatures, copied from gopetition, closed in 2011: "Thank you to everyone who signed this petition, I am sure you are all aware that we were victorious in our campaign and the new parking regulations have been rescinded by Westminster City Council." Here's the Facebook group. The domain thepetition.co.uk was registered on 14 November 2012.
Only one of the petitions on the site is being promoted: Denton's bogus "racist bloggers" petition. With 973 signatures, it has more than all the others combined, by almost an order of magnitude. It's the only one with a picture, the only one which did not exist before the date of registration of the domain on another site (because of course it was pulled from the other sites), and for the same reason the only one that does not exist on any other site. Ron Lewis' summary at Errol Denton's Pretend Petitions sums it up nicely. And the registrar is the 123-Reg proxy for domains registered with WHOIS privacy. JzG (talk) 11:45, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

Josephine Jones[edit]

Campaigning blogger, Josephine (there's several references to her on the article page) has referred to this article on twitter. It has been retweeted several times, including by some "famous" tweeters. Scream!! (talk) 01:37, 7 January 2013 (UTC)

  • Indeed. And Denton has a new Twitter sockpuppet @FightRacism2. JzG (talk) 12:09, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
Josephine Jones Website has been taken down by Wordpress. Scream!! (talk) 21:14, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

Just fancy that[edit]

The IP that is trying to neutralise this article's impact on the Google results for Denton resolves as scottaxa.plus.net - by a curious coincidence, scottaxa is one of the user names used by SEO "specialist" Scott D. Smith, a colleague of the registrar of Denton's fake petition site.

You might think that advising a client who is in a big hole, to use a JCB to make it deeper, does not constitute sound reputation management advice. You might think. JzG (talk) 10:21, 9 January 2013 (UTC)

Is all this cyberstalking really necessary? WéáśéĺóíďWeaselly.jpgMethinks it is a Weasel 13:21, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, he's harassing some friends of mine. Oh, and making fraudulent claims to cure cancer. JzG (talk) 23:09, 9 January 2013 (UTC)

You have to admit that's pretty funny. Using dead wikis to boost your search engine presence? How desperate is that, exactly? JzG (talk) 00:27, 10 January 2013 (UTC)
