Talk:François Hollande

From RationalWiki

This is rational wiki, brx. We look at things like "why people vote", and "why they impeach". and the fact that the US is obsessed with what our presidents do in the bedroom, is very much in line with rational wiki. Green mowse.pngGodot 16:04, 16 May 2012 (UTC)

What France doesn't do does not warrant its own section. Put that into an article about the US instead, unless you want to append it to the articles on Germany, the UK, and whatever other countries seem to not care about such things. .--"Shut up, Brx." 16:07, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
If they have presidents who are not married, I'll add it. Right now, they do not, so it's in this article. His personal life is all over american news, cause we don't know what to do with it. We would make hay about a president having a child out of wedlock, it would be first point news on any talk show. Hollande has 4 kids out of wedlock. That actually matters - for a site like this, perhaps more than his positions which are fairly unimpressive. Green mowse.pngGodot 16:09, 16 May 2012 (UTC)

It is not all over the American media [1]. Just because this is what you're interested in doesn't mean it should be in the article. --"Shut up, Brx." 16:14, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
It is all over the media. HuffPo had an article just about that. Every major US news has highlighted that fact about him. It's "shocking" to us. Brx, you need to remember that article on a site like this with a point of view (or even to a lesser extent, Wikipedia) are writing about our own politics, every time we write about foreign politics. It's not a french site, with french sensibilities, about french news, it's an English site. And every choice to talk is saying "this is a mirror of our own lives". When you write about personal lives about Obama, or Hollande or Strauss-Kahn, you are not talking about them; it is, always, a meta discussion on who we are as a people. (In this case, American). Green mowse.pngGodot 16:20, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
Three articles. That's all I got for "Francois Hollande unmarried". Besides, this is not American RationalWiki. Do an article on sex scandals if you must, but don't drag your fancruft all over the wiki.--"Shut up, Brx." 16:25, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
Well, I read the NYT and it was all over that. What's more, in comparison to other countries the way the French do not hold their politicians to the same moral standards as the rest of the world, is important, just as important as the UK's "we don't do religion" or the USA's problems with a mormon candidate. Bad Faith (talk) 16:32, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
I'm not exactly sure what "fancruft" is, though I did vote for the guy, i'd hardly say I'm a fan girl of him. As I said, this is a point that shows what one country is vs. another. we do it all over the wiki. I'm not sure why you are so insane about this. I suspect (though do not know) we go into some detail about Clinton's cigarette issue.Green mowse.pngGodot 16:37, 16 May 2012 (UTC)

Hiding reverts[edit]

This page is in active discussion. If anyone (yes, that means you, Brx) makes a revert using a bot again, I will block them. If you revert, do it openly, for heaven's sake. Green mowse.pngGodot 16:49, 16 May 2012 (UTC)

Actually I think that was me; what with botrollback right next to rollback. --il'Dictator Mikal 16:54, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
As for WFG's edit summary, all rollbacks done with the "Rollback" link are automatically marked as minor. Prodigal (talk) 16:57, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
My bad then, sorry all. I just saw that brx had a "b" edit that i didn't see till i clicked on "turn on bots". appologies to all, even you brx. Green mowse.pngGodot 16:58, 16 May 2012 (UTC)

Apparently I wasn't aware of how botrollback works. Go me for learning and stuff. Cow...Hammertime! 17:23, 16 May 2012 (UTC)

He is either the 24 president of France, or the 7th president of the Fifth Republic. Not the "9th president of France" - a totally nonsensical blending of the two concepts. --Green mowse.pngGodotCalibrated! let the voting begin! 22:33, 25 October 2012 (UTC)

Was counting two interim presidents. Hasty research--"Shut up, Brx." 22:42, 25 October 2012 (UTC)

Delete request[edit]

Can we at least wait for him being a former president before deleting? While we can't have articles on every politician, he's still the president of one of the UN security council countries.--dx (talk) 10:36, 26 May 2014 (UTC)

0n the other hand, I'd agree this page reads like crap. A rewrite might be in order when I'll find the time. (The debate between "it's their private life" and "he's the president, we have to inform the public" over his recent affair might be good fodder for the private life part, and switching from good/bad for his policies (from which POV?) to done/still-waiting might be better.)--dx (talk) 10:47, 26 May 2014 (UTC)
Ok I can at least see the argument whe it comes to deleting Mongolia pages, even if it's kind of dumb since it's only one page but I can see where it's coming from. But the president of France is an extremely important figure, it's not like he's some lowly deputy or something. ClothCoat (talk) 06:32, 23 June 2014 (UTC)
you're about a month late to the discussion--Miekal 06:33, 23 June 2014 (UTC)
Didn't see that coming. Ok burn it. ClothCoat (talk) 06:34, 23 June 2014 (UTC)

I created a page[edit]

I created a page for him that touched on his science policy and so on can I restore it and put it under François Hollande? It's under Francois Hollande. ClothCoat (talk) 08:34, 15 August 2014 (UTC)

Hey so can I restore the page? I thought the main issue was with the way it was written before so I wrote this page as an alternative to the original because it's now more mission focused. Also unlike Wikipedia I talked about his position on Global Warming and immigration among other things, as well as more detail into his economic positions. ClothCoat (talk) 23:48, 15 August 2014 (UTC)
Probably best for you to put it in user space and ask for feedback there (or inquire at the Saloon Bar). The deletion discussion for the original page was quite recent, so it might also be worth dropping a line to the folks who voted delete and asking their opinions. - Grant (talk) 23:53, 15 August 2014 (UTC)
Ok. ClothCoat (talk) 23:58, 15 August 2014 (UTC)
Keep in mind that's only my suggestion. If it's in userspace, it's not going to be deleted by somebody doing a drive-by after seeing the deletion discussion. Just seems safer that way. - Grant (talk) 00:05, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
The reason i deleted it again was, 1) it was a recent vote and 2) just because it talks about missional stuff doesnt mean it's still important to have, as people said he's not a very notworthy person in terms of what we care about--Miekal 00:10, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
Indeed. I figured there was a reason for deletion, hence my suggestion that ClothCoat recreate it in userspace where it can grow and receive comments without circumventing the deletion decision. - Grant (talk) 00:13, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
Userspace? I've never used that before, nor do I see it on the help page. How would I use this it sounds helpful because in the end he is about as important as David Cameron and Angela Merkal even if he is ineffectual, yet we have pages on both of them and Sarkozy. ClothCoat (talk) 00:29, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
Basically, you create a page like User:ClothCoat/sandbox (rename the subpage whatever you want) and add your work there. The advantage is that you can tweak it (and look for comments) as much as you want before moving it to mainspace. It's used most commonly (from what I've seen) for preparing draft versions of pages that may not yet be ready to see the light of day. - Grant (talk) 00:34, 16 August 2014 (UTC)

────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────The wiki has gotten much stricter on missionality requirements in recent times. So it goes. Nebuchadnezzar (talk) 02:22, 16 August 2014 (UTC)

This makes the ClothCoat sad. ClothCoat (talk) 05:39, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
The guy at the Saloon Bar said I could post my page and I haven't heard any other complaints so I'm going to do so. ClothCoat (talk) 06:24, 20 August 2014 (UTC)
