I don't see the problem with that Taiwan analogy[edit]

Taiwan is literally ruled by a rump state that declares itself to be the legitimate Chinese state. Sure, the PRC is a dictatorship, but Taiwan only became a liberal democracy within the last 40 years or so. Chiang Kai-shek, the loser of the Chinese Civil War, ran the country quite literally till his death. Carthage (talk) 17:29, 4 August 2024 (UTC)

The Confederacy never attempted to declare itself a legitimate American state, though. On the contrary, it was attempting to paint itself as an entirely different nation from the Union, with the Union being the side that argued it was the same nation as all of the other states.--Ephrom (talk) 18:14, 4 August 2024 (UTC)
If you want to get pedantic, then yeah the analogy is a flawed one. The overall gist of the argument, that the ROC is a relic of the Chinese Civil War that is used as a cudgel in geopolitical powerplay against the PRC, still rings true. I don't see why this is so controversial, it's literally just describing geopolitical realities. If Texas was in a similar political status to Taiwan you can bet your ass off that it would be used against the United States. Although I will acknowledge I haven't watched the Hasan clip in question. Carthage (talk) 18:33, 4 August 2024 (UTC)
I think the analogy can be seen as, at best, very hyperbolic. Remember, the South fought specifically for the purpose of keeping its slaves because they were scared the North was going rid of slavery. That is such a specific form of evil I'm sure it's appropriate to compare anything short of that to that.--Ephrom (talk) 19:14, 4 August 2024 (UTC)
Godwin's law variation? I can see that. Carthage (talk) 19:15, 4 August 2024 (UTC)

Influence[edit]

I think it's important we don't underestimate just how influential Hasan really is. He was given direct access to a sitting US Congressperson. He was one of only 200 influencers invited to attend the DNC 2024 convention. He has over 2.6 mil followers on Twitch. The numbers alone are insane. I'ma add more about that interview later. Allies or enemies?[edit]

@Rockford the Roe "Enemies" makes more sense in context. Carthage (talk) 18:01, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
