Thanks..but be careful, I was going to troll around Texe Marrs' website last night for material, took one look at his front page, and decided I didn't want to see anymore. Hope the Birchers aren't *that* far out there. Secret Squirrel 21:37, 20 December 2007 (EST)

JBS and Global Warming Denialism[edit]

The JBS runs a "news" site called the The New Amercian, and it seems that they are posting global warming denialist nonsense like this. Should this be added to their page alongside all their other conspiracy theories?

Should we try to work in their (one-time) hatred of the Girl Scouts? (Or, was that not them but some other crazy conservative group?)— Unsigned, by: Researcher / talk / contribs

Is there a record of a blue booker ever doing such?— Unsigned, by: / talk / contribs

You are supposed to be about "rationality," but all you have done in this wiki page is defame JBS with allegations; you have not attempted to disprove the validity of anything they are alleged by you to have said.

This is not 'rationality'. It is defamation by allegation.

It's also stupidity, because it is not necessary to "actually propose" a North American Union in order to "actually" take all the steps toward doing it.

All the steps have been taken, using 9/11 as the pretext. All that remains is to officially politically dismantle Canada and USA on the pretext of another similar or related "emergency". So, your "rational" wiki gets zero points for basic intelligence.— Unsigned, by: / talk / contribs

KKK with a thin veneer? Please, explain the conundrum of African American, Hispanic and other minority John Birch members.— Unsigned, by: / talk / contribs

The attack on Eisenhower[edit]

You have also failed to "smirch Birch" with an important unmentioned allegation, which may have basis in reality. Welch and JBS were alleged to be a major Soviet agency in USA formed to penetrate and misguide American Conservatives. The attack on Eisenhower was viewed in this light as a Soviet attempt to "destabilize" the Presidency, which I think is a fascinating allegation worthy of investigation, [a] to see if it was an error and a miscalculation by Welch and JBS; or, [b] if Welch was not wrong, it would be important to know; [c] if Welch was both not wrong AND a Soviet agent, it would be even more important to know.— Unsigned, by: / talk / contribs

In response to the reader who asked for an explanation of the "conundrum" re African American JBS members: According to Robert Welch (the founder and leader of the JBS), the number of African-American members of the JBS in 1965 was exceptionally small --- 1/10 of 1% of total JBS membership -- which calculates to about 80-100 members.

JBS admirers and supporters often refer to black Americans who were paid speakers for the JBS -- such as Julia Brown and Lola Belle Holmes. They both gave hundreds of speeches around our country during the 1960's and 1970's (usually for $100 per speech). However, it should be noted that black JBS speakers (like Julia and Lola Belle) never addressed or spoke about discrimination against, or oppression of, black Americans in our southern states. Instead, the Birch Society used their black speakers exclusively for the purpose of criticizing and denigrating and discrediting our civil rights movement and all of our national civil rights leaders and national civil rights organizations.

Significantly, both Julia and Lola Belle were (at one time) FBI informants inside the Communist Party. Their reports to their FBI case agents routinely mentioned the ANTI-Communist efforts by senior leadership of groups like NAACP ... BUT when Julia and Lola Belle became JBS speakers, they flagrantly contradicted what they told the FBI. The reason? Because they made a VERY lucrative living from parroting anti-civil rights movement JBS dogma which is why our FBI often referred to these folks as "professional anti-communists".

At the very time when Robert Welch and the JBS used every method at their disposal to assert that our civil rights movement was Communist-created, Communist-dominated, Communist-controlled and "served only Communist purposes" FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover declared:

“Let me emphasize that the American civil rights movement is not, and has never been, dominated by the communists—because the overwhelming majority of civil rights leaders in this country, both Negro and white, have recognized and rejected communism as a menace to the freedoms of all.” [J. Edgar Hoover speech, 12/12/64, Our Heritage of Greatness, pg 7 - Hoover speech before Pennsylvania Society and the Society of Pennsylvania Women; bold emphasis in original document on “not” and “never”].

Lastly, there are some very serious errors in the Rational Wiki article about the JBS. Whoever was responsible for writing the article obviously has no real knowledge about JBS history. More information available from My webpage concerning FBI files on the JBS is referenced in the article. — Unsigned, by: / talk / contribs
