So, uh, who were Sykes and Matza? You can't just drop names in like that without explaining what makes them relevant. Star of David.png Radioactive afikomen Please ignore all my awful pre-2014 comments. 04:46, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

It wasn't me—a big boy did it and ran away[edit]

Does that one really count?--User:Brxbrx/sig 05:24, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

Could you provide another explanation? The others all admit to the crime, this one says it was straight up done by somebody else. I don't think it fits.--User:Brxbrx/sig 13:21, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
Start with the WP article where one of the techniques is Disbursement of blame. When Jack wrote the original stub he wanted to give it a light tone so he interpreted an offender may deny the degree to which they were involved (passing the blame) as the old school-yard excuse of a big boy did it and ran away. If you want to rewrite it I - and Jack - have no problem with this but don't just delete because you don't think it fits. Take that up with Matza and Sykes. From the article: by which those who commit illegitimate acts temporarily neutralize certain values within themselves. I think disbursement of blame refers more to someone pushing the credit to his partner. So yeah, I'll rewrite that bit.--User:Brxbrx/sig 13:55, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
I think that part of it is that "A big boy did it and ran away" is far more of a cliché over here in the UK and has all sorts of overtones of blame shifting that are lost in the literal translation. As such you are right to change it. Bad Faith (talk) 15:03, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
Damn right. This is an American wiki, our servers are in New Mexico. :P --User:Brxbrx/sig 15:08, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

Is "God told me to do it" one of these?[edit]
