- In English it is known primarily from the Biblical reference. It is likely the original Biblical text was composed (or re-composed / edited) during the Greco-Roman period when the city of Per-Atum was in existence, and that name was used by the author for the Biblical city, and it became corrupted to "Pithom" though bad translation somewhere along the line. --
