the opening is virtually word for word from WP. I'm not sure if we care or not.

Elephants?[edit]

But . .. there was elephants in the americas . . . sure we killed them all, but . . . surely someone drew a picture before that. 71.238.243.98 (talk) 03:41, 14 October 2012 (UTC)

To be more specific, elephant-like creatures existed on the hemisphere within 2000 years of the creation of the statues. People have to remember that . . . humans built these, and humans existed up and down the hemisphere, travellers could have brought stories from far away. Old stories told over thousands of years, old stories told over generations. Or maybe their own civilization remembered, OR EVEN EXCAVATED FOSSILS (some humans are known to do that you know) . . . Saying that elephant images = knowledge of africa/pre-columbian conflict . . . is completely false, because there was elephantine creatures in the western hemisphere during the same time as various civilizations. 71.238.243.98 (talk) 05:14, 17 October 2012 (UTC)
To be fair, if you simply dug up a skeleton of an elephant, you'd have no way of knowing that the thing had a giant tentacle for a nose unless you already knew what a live one looked like. I don't think for a second that aliens or Plato's fictional city were involved here, but it would be more helpful if this article showed some pictures of the alleged elephant carvings and actually offered an alternate explanation.Skadooshbag (talk) 16:23, 7 January 2022 (UTC)
